So long, Snapstream!
Snapstream has moved on to greener pastures, it appears. Personally, I think, mainly it was the demise of the classic HTPC plus .Net that did them in.
That's no news for quite a few of you, I guess. But it was for me when I went over to their site today. Last edited by flavius; 09-01-2009 at 12:00 AM. |

Is there an announcement somewhere? I don't see anything different on their site...

While it's true that snapstream seems to be putting most of their effort into their Enterprise software, the BTV software is still on the Home page and is available for $99.

I can see why you thought that flavious since their website seems to focus on the enterprise side of things. But the consumer BTV product still exists and continues to be sold.
My speculation: They'll probably leave BTV at 4.9 forever though if the enterprise business continues to server them as it has been. Their consumer customer base seems to have dwindled and doesn't justify much time or money on development or even support. I recently asked their CEO about their focus on BTV and received no response from him - which hasn't been the norm in the past. |

I'm curious how Snapstream is going to deal with the digital cable transition. It seems like closed captioning support is pretty integral to their enterprise product, and as far as I know there isn't a good way to support that with digital cable.
I think their Enterprise product is pretty cool, and I'd think there would be a lot of potential high-end customers. If they attract enough maybe they could get cable card certification at some point in the future. They'd probably need to come up with a customized OS to enforce DRM. |

They keep sticking to TV recording only and didn't have much Beyond that everyone ask for more of Media Integrated so what did come out that dumb Beyond Media in stead of Integrated in to BeyondTV and that didn't even count that min little thing we all ask for which they FAIL on consumer customer side. |
