Better Way to Add folders/locations!
With all the great features in STV, the management of folders for import is HORRIBLE!. Here's my case/problem. My music is stored on a Linux server (192.168.10.2) pushing out an SMB share as MediaMP3, but the server is on a different subnet than the STV server (192.168.1.35). And with STV inability to add a mapped drive letter, I must use UNC and since I want to add each folder as its own genre (music organized as /genre/artist/album), I need to manually enter each and every location as \\192.168.10.2\MediaMP3\Blues, then \\192.168.10.2\MediaMP3\Jazz etc etc. This should nto have to be that difficult or time consuming. Can there not be some sort of simple and easxy-to-edit interface to add all the locations? This is going to take hours to add them all. Why not some sort of text based web interface, or maybe some improvement in the interface to cut-paste locations? Anything will be an improvement over this horrible interface for adding import locations.

I believe you can copy/paste can you not using Ctrl-V and Ctrl-C?
I only have a limited number of shares - one for music, one for videos and one for photos. For most of us we only have a handful of shares and they are only entered once. I use SageMC and in that UI you can select View by Folder and once you select this it should give you all subfolders, which would be genres in your instance, wouldn't it?

It isn't that difficult or time consuming -- most people simply import the parent directory & allow SageTV to do its thing where it automatically scans the subdirectories too.
The file tags are used for the various music browser views, not the folder names. Or, you can browse by folder, which does use the folder structure below the import dir(s). - Andy

I would like to just add the musics root folder, but not all tags have been added correctly during ripping and so although all say "Blues" albums are under /MediaMP3/Blues, some dont have correct tags and so in order to have a clearly defined genre/album/artist structure I need to import by folder. The interface for adding these folders is about the worst I have ever seen. So many steps and typing just to add them. There really needs to be something cleaner simpler for adding/editing these locations. A simple list where you can enter the text directly (which we could then cut/paste) and of course being able to type in the UNC once

Adding the subdirectories won't solve your grouping problem, in fact it will make it worse I think.
Sage merges the contents of all import directories into a single "collection" if you will. If you import the root directory, you can use the folder view (AFAIK) and you'll see each genre. If you import each genre separately, everything will be grouped together and even in folder view there will be no way to see each genre folder separately. |

You don't need to import folder by folder -- if you need to browse by folder, the Folder view will break it down automatically so you see a multi-level folder structure.
Since they aren't fully tagged, the other views won't get anything from any type of folder breakdown or multiple import directory structure. Folder structure does not affect tags at all. Just import the top level and be done -- try it. - Andy
