System Messages

Last night I received 54 system messages; 1 message for each new channel that was apparently added to my lineup. The new channels appear to be the HD equivalents of most of the stations I already get, which I would love to be able to tune. I use Comcast and HDHR for QAM…

The channels appear in my guide with No Data. I figured that all I needed to do to view them was go to HDHR do the channel scan and viola, Sage could tune them just fine. I can’t get HDHR to pick them up with their scan, and there appears to be no way of manually trying a specific channel to see if the HDHR can tune one of these new stations… I have rescanned in Sage’s channel scan interface too, but that didn’t make any difference.

I would really like to know if I can somehow access all these new stations that Sage added to my lineup. Somehow Sage can see something that my HDHR can’t.

What am I missing?

I think you need to go back to the HDHR setup utility and scan there for the new channels. Pick them up, verify them and make sure they have to correct guide number and name. Do it on all tuners. Then in Sage do a channel scan and tell it to do an update scan. This should leave your current channels alone and find all your new ones. Review them and see if you can view a channel. Again, do this for all HDHR tuners.

That was the first thing that I did… Let me clarify that while my guide says No Data, when I try to watch one of these new stations I get a blank screen and eventually a new system message saying something like the HDHR stopped producing data. For some reason, the HDHR’s utility scan does not identify all the new channels which Sage claims now exist…

Can I force a station to appear in the HDHR utility? Or, is there another way I can determine if these stations are actually tunable with the HDHR? I’m not sure what in Sage’s system messages triggered it to think there is new stations, I hope they are tunable.

Sage only knows that the stations were added to the lineup. The stations may be encrypted. It may take a day or two for the data to be filled in. But I would disable the stations until you can seen them by your tuners. They may never very viewable in clear QAM. Sage is just letting you know that they were added, so you can take the proper action.

That's kind of what I figured. I'm not holding out a lot of hope that I will be able to tune those stations.

At the same time, I love the fact that Sage has added the ability to alert us to these things!! Thanks Sage for your continued efforts to make Sage better and better

Many cable stations are removing their analog stations and adding them as digital stations in ClearQAM. WHen this occurred I was able to scan and verify these were avaialble in the HDHR setup utility and had to correct the guide numbers and channel names. Then I was able to update the channels in Sage. If all 54 stations are encrypted then the HDHR setup utility shouldn't pick them up.

I have Comcast and they apparently use 2 different clear QAMs at the same time in my area. I tried various tuners and they only could tune a few channels. The HDHomeruns tune EVERYTHING. Comcast in my area has all local HD channels in clear QAM. EVERY other HD channel is scrambled. So it is likely all of these added HD channels (except your OTA locals) are not tunable.

I have 2 HDHRs and I now receive 92 watchable stations in ClearQAM from Comcast. All of the analog ones that moved to digital and the locals in HD.
