HD 200 newbie - simple question

With a system consisting of one Sage Media Center server (my main box for the last five years) and a newly added HD Theater, I don't think I'm grasping something.
When I try to change channels on either end, I get a "all encoders in use by clients viewing "live" tv".

In order to do this, does either of the box's have to be in standby mode? For example, if I leave the room where the extender is and go to the room where the server is hooked up (to a television), do I have to shut the extender down to standy first?

PS - I will do that frequently, so the an answer of "why don't you just change channels in one room" will unfortunately not cure my predicament.

You do not have to be in standby, but you have to stop viewing on the client. You must issue the stop command.

The missing information that you did not provide is how many tuners (encoders) you have. I assume only one, but if you had 2 or more then what you want to do would be possible.

The "stop" command? Just hit stop on the Huappauge remote that controls my server, or the stop command on the HD200's remote? I just did a test, and put the extender in "standby", and that did the trick. But your saying I don't have to do that? Your way would be preferred.

The remote for the device you are viewing before you want to change stations. If you are watching using the HD200, then that would be the remote. When I am using the client to view, I use the control g command to stop viewing. I don't recall if I remapped the stop command to control g or if that is the default.

BTW: I now always issue a stop before shutting down a client or extender device. I believe that failure to do that may keep a file in use. This may prevent the OS from being able to delete the file when requested to do so by Sage. Before I started doing that I was force to reboot my system every so often to get some recorded files off my system that Sage thought was deleted, but were not.

So when you issue a stop command, that brings up the main menu - is that correct? Just leave it there and I'll be able to change channels from the other location?

I don't think you can expect it to return to the main menu. It will probably return you to the menu where you were when you starting viewing a show. I seldom watch live TV, I mostly view shows that are in progress of being recorded.

I would expect you to leave it there and change channels from any location you want. However, I fail to understand what you are trying to do. If viewing from the HD200, why not change channels there? When you issue the stop command the recording should stop and the encoder should be available to view another channel. If you are expecting to prevent loss of data from your original channel then you need multiple tuners or use your TV directly to view the new channel.
