Need Help: SageTV-HDHomeRun Installation Problem

I just purchased an HDHR and am having problems getting it to work with SageTV. I stopped the SageTV server and ran the HDHR setup program. I then scanned and mapped the channels and checked that I could view them without problems from inside the HDHR setup program. I then restarted the SageTV server, launched SageTV, and attempted to add the HDHR as a source. However, as soon as I select one of the HDHR sources I get the following message "The connection the the SageTV Service has been lost. The connection will be reestablished once the SageTV service restarts." At this stage I can manually restart the SageTV service but it'll just stop again as soon as I attempt anything related to setting up the HDHR. In addition there is an error file generated in my SageTV directory every time the SageTV service stops stating that there was a JAVA error due to an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. The problem frame is Indiv01.key+0x109b9b which appears to be called from Sage.DShowCaptureDevice.h()+169.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on or how to resolve this issue? Thanks.

The HDHR should work fine with SageTV, following these instructions: HDHR setup for Windows.

What version of SageTV are you using? What version of Windows? Are Java and DirectX up to date?

Thanks for the useful instructions. I printed them out and followed them exactly when I tried to setup the HDHR. For some reason they don't work for me.

With respect to versions I'm using
SageTV: 6.6.2
Window Vista x86 with Service Pack 2
and I've updated JAVA and Directx to the latest versions within the last 2 days in an attempt to solve the problem without success. I also tried reinstalling Vista without any success.

I'm beginning to think there must be a hardware or software conflict/problem in my machine but I'm at a lost as to where to look or what to check for this conflict/problem.

Are you running with UAC on or off? Do you know if the HDHR software created the *.scn files in the Sage directory?

UAC is on but doesn't affect SageTV since I installed the software on a separate drive instead of the default program file location. HDHR did create the scn files and placed them in my SageTV directory. Unfortunately, it appears that my system is erroring out before it gets to these files.

Make sure you have the latest (20090806)of the HDHR software. There was a bug that was writing to the virtualstore regardless if UAC was on or off. If there was a virtual store directory it was trying to write to it.

I think you should report this to sage support. Regardless of what is causing the problem, I would think the Sage would like to see the Java dump file. Be sure to mention it when you report the issue. Since you updated Java does it still create a dump file? If so I would send the most recent one

Since everything is up to date & you've already been trying to use the HDHR instructions, enable debug logging, including the native log, post the logs & any error files, then send a note to support w/a link to the post with the log.

Regardless of where the scn file is located, it shouldn't cause the service to exit.

I may have found the problem. My SageTV computer died this morning. If I kill and then restore power, it'll start up but will freeze and become totally unresponsive within 5 minutes of power being restored. The freeze doesn't occur at any specific point and has occured both before and after windows starts to load so I suspect it is more likely a hardware problem than windows related. The computer is about 5 years old so I'm just going to replace it. I'll let you know if the problem still exists once I get the new computer up and running.

Problem solved. I finished setting up and reinistalling software on the new computer last night and had no problem adding the HDHR to SageTV on the new system.
