Really dumb Q about HD-DVR ands non HD output
Can I record HD content from HD channels in a non-HD format so that it can be later displayed on SD TV's? All five of my TV's are just SD and I have the old SD media extenders.

If you output via S Video from your HD receiver to an analog tuner then you will be able to play all the HD stations on your SD TVs. The content won't actually be HD, but it will still look quite good.

The Hauppauge HD PVR does not support recording to a format that can be played by the MVP extenders without transcoding (it only records to H.264). But you can record S-Video using a "normal" tuner like toricred mentioned.

OK. This is obviously related to the other thread about DirecTV. Sounds like my only real option is to pay for the HD channels and then record those HD channels via S Video to my old PVR-150 cards. That'll work?

Sorry, I missed the part about the SD media extenders.
