Why doesn't sage see my USB-UIRT?

Sage has been working quite well for me with my HDHomeRun. Now, I'm trying to hook up an hd-pvr, connected to a STB controlled by an IR connected either to my USB-UIRT or to the hdpvr itself. I thought that the USB-UIRT would be the easier way to do it, since a number of people here seem so use it, but I can't get sage to recognize it. When I add the hdpvr as a video source, and specify "use external cable receiver...", then "infrared blaster". I get a choice of port 0-9, but nothing about the USB-UIRT.

The following comes from /var/log/syslog:
Jul 23 13:46:32 jivo kernel: [541252.156050] usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 4

Jul 23 13:46:32 jivo NetworkManager: <info> (ttyUSB0): ignoring due to lack of mobile broadband capabilties
So , the system sees it, but doesn't seem to know that it's an ir blaster. Should it?

Do I need to add a modprobe, or something to udev? Do I need to do anything in lirc (which is installed)?

Thanks!

lirc working, sage still can't see the usb-uirt

I've got lirc configured now to use my USB-UIRT, so that I can do an irsend of all the relevant keys and they all control the motorola STB in the right way. However, I still can't seem to connect SageTV to the USB-UIRT. When I try to add the source, and select "Use external cable or satellite..." I am shown two choices - DirecTV Serial, and Infrared Blaster. When I select Infrared Blaster, it shows me Port 0-9. When I select any of them, it tells me "Failed setting the infrared blaster port...". I looked for an appropriate plugin to add (Advanced setup->manage STVi plugins), but I can't find one. Do I need to edit the properties file? Download a plugin?

The USB-UIRT is showing up on /dev/ttyUSB0. As I said, lirc is working fine with it now that I made my own config file for the remote.

I'm on ubuntu 9.04, Sage 6.6.1, lirc 0.8.4a.

Thanks for any help with this. I think this is the LAST THING before I get to enjoy throwing my Tivo in the trash!

The Infrared Blaster selection refers to the IR Blaster that's part of the HDPVR; that's the recommended way to go if the HDPVR driver you have installed supports it properly.

There's also an unsupported LIRC plugin posted on the forums somewhere I wrote a few years back...you should be able to find it with a search.

Thanks, Narflex. I've gotten it working now, using the usb-uirt with stuckless' external tuner plugin. It would be great to use the build in blaster, and I think that the driver does support it (if modified as shown in a parallel thread), so I'll try that. How / where do I set up the IR codes for the specific STB, if I do that? The external tuner plugin has a config file for them.

It lets you select the device from a predefined set after you select the port; you don't need to program the specific codes.
