Can't see see recordings when server logs in as user

I am setting up a new PC with SageTV, moving from a previous installation.

When I use the SageTV service and log in as a user that has access to the WHS network storage (which contains a lot of my videos), I don't see anything listed for my SageTV Recordings anymore.

If I set up the SageTV Service to use the default (LocalSystem), my SageTV recordings are listed, but none of them are accessible. (Note: I understand why this part occurs)

How do I get the Sage Recordings to list the previously recorded shows when I use the SageTV service with a user login?

Everything works fine if I use the SageTV Client instead of the SageTV Service.

Thanks,

AzJazz

Did you copy the wiz.bin file from the previous installation into the SageTV directory of the new installation? Stop the service before performing this. And check the FAQs.

Also check the permissions of the files to make sure that your "user" is actually allowed read access to those files. Otherwise, Sage will just ignore them, i.e. they will not show up.

Thanks for getting back to me, guys ...

I think I may have found the solution (though I'm not 100% sure).

I had copied the entire previous installation directory over (wiz.bin & all). Stopping the service, changing the "Run service as" user, and then restarting the service just wouldn't work.

However, I can access all my SageTV Recordings now.

The only thing I can figure out is that I rebooted my PC sometime between when I last checked SageTV and now. The only thing that has me confused is that I *know* I rebooted a ton of times while I was trying to debug this, and it didn't work then.

Oh, well. At least I can get to my recordings now.

How old was your previous installation? In some instances the wiz.bin file needed to be converted to a new version and could have taken some time. This may have happened in your situation.

RATS! It's doing it again!

I do have additional information this time that may help to identify the problem.

This appears to be a SageTV Client issue. When I rebooted my computer, I went to my Media Extender, and all my Sage Recording videos showed up fine. So, the SageTV Server seems to get to the files OK.

Immediately afterward, I went to my SageTV Server PC and started up the SageTV Client. The Sage Recordings list was empty.

BTW, Gerry - My previous installation was 6.5.11, and a fairly recent installation of it.

Make sure SageTV icon is not showing up in your system tray after you restart your computer. And to start the client you're just executing sagetv.exe, correct?

Hey, Gerry (or anyone else with thoughts on what's happening) - The SageTV icon is not in my system tray after boot-up. And, I just start the SageTV client by running sagetv.exe (at least, that's what the shortcut says).

I never saw this happen on my original PC.

Sigh.

OK ... I think I fixed it!

The problem appeared to be this: When I created the "SageTVSvc" User Account on my server PC, I didn't make it part of the "Administrators" User Group.

After adding the SageTVSvc user to the Administrators group, I can now see all my SageTV Recordings in the SageTV client.

Whew.
