I think the OP is now complaining about analog audio not working with his HD-PVR. That's certainly an issue with a company's product, although I don't know if it's the HD-PVR or the cable box.

hit the nail right on the head. I'd be quite happy to use the analogue audio if it worked, but since it doesn't, I'm forced to use the digital.

and it's not the STB, I've already had it replaced.

In my Cisco SA4250 I was able to get some relief by modifying the audio: Range and Audio: Volume Ctrl settings in the settings menu. The first was set to narrow and I changed it to normal. The other I set to Fixed.

I am using analog input on my HDPVR.

It probably won't affect direct AC3 streaming but make sure you turn the volume on the SA4250 all the way up. Use the controls on the front. Looking at the display on the front it should go up to 30 as the max volume.

Edit: BTW, you have to turn the volume up every time the power has been lost. If all you're doing is power cycling it via the power button on the front then you're fine. But if you actually yank the power to reset the device you'll need to ensure the volume is turned all the way up.
