Some wrong files in video import directory

I have 3 video import directories, in which I only put DVD folders. Strangely, threr are several mpg files that show up (and they are SageTV recordings), and they aren't in any of my import directories, but are in my main recording directories. It is only a few of the hundreds of recordings I have, but I cannot explain why.

I find it annoying, I have rescanned the import directories several times, but the files are still there. Does anyone have some suggestions I could try?

These are TV Recodings files that have either had their file name changed or somehow lost the metadata that was associated with it. If you rename back to what they were they may show back up in recordings.

I re-read my post, and I didn't sound very clear, but it looks like you understood it pretty clearly. I am impressed.

I looked through the files, and some were duplicate recordings, but with different numbers at the end of the filename. Others were of recordings that I don't see listed in my TV recordings.

I assume that if I don't see them listed as recordings then they aren't listed in my wiz.bin file, so there isn't anything I can rename them to...is this right? It isn't that big of a deal, since I can always watch them in my videos directory.

One other thing, why do they even appear there? Their location isn't in my video import directory? Is this a feature of stage, where if it can't find this meta data it lists them with your videos? Also, is this metadata stored with the video, or with wiz.bin?

Thanks for your help!!

I think there is a way if you use nielm's webserver add-on to import recordings back into the Recorded TV library. Search the forums.

The different numbers at the end of the file name means that the recording got broken up into multiple parts, probably because of encoder error, disk was busy, CPU bogged down, wrong phase of the moon, whatever. SageTV seems to occasionally decide that recordings (like these and perhaps others) are bad and removes them from wiz.bin but sometimes forgets to delete the files or all the parts of files. Why they then later show up in the video import directory, I don't know.

I think all the metadata is in wiz.bin because the mpg files seem to be just plain old mpg files.

I've been dealing with this same problem by trying to track down why the file was segmented in the first place. In my case, reducing the recording quality on my USB tuner cut down on the multiple files. I assume I was overloading the USB bus or something. Also, if you're converting your mpg files with the SageTV transcoder or an external program, SageTV might lose track of the file and delete it or put it in an import directory. I've seen that happen a time or two and suspect it in many more cases.
