updates causing wierd stuff
I know it's probably been asked a million times, and I've read some of the threads about Java and some files in the Sage folder affecting user preferences. I just need some clarification because it seems that there may be two (or more) versions of my user preferences stored on my system.
Every time I do a Java update or a SageTV update (I just did a Sage update about a month ago), my user settings seem to change. My skip ahead / back times change and my recordings disappear. By that, I mean that previous (to the upgrade) recordings appear in "Sage TV Recordings" on the main menu. After the upgrade, I can't find t.hem there, but they instead appear in the "Imported Videos". The last time I did an upgrade (to Java), this situation reversed, and the recordings that had been previously (and mysteriously) moved to "Imported Videos" came back to the "Sage TV Recordings" and all my most recent recordings moved into "Imported Videos". This is really a minor annoyance to me, but the wife is not as tolerant because she doesn't seem to be able to remember where to go to find the shows sometimes. I'll have to agree that this is annoying, and I'll bet there is a simple way to fix it. I just don't know how. Can anyone help me? |

With that said, there is no reason the Java updates should be doing this UNLESS you are running the 6u12 which is was a horrible update that completely corrupted most Java installs. If you are running 6u12, then I would recommend shutting down Sage, deleting all installed java and upgrading to 6u13.

Installing a SageTV update shouldn't affect the recordings or settings & is covered in chapter 2 of the SageTV PDF manual. More detailed info on installing a SageTV update is here: How to install a new version of SageTV.
As the instructions say: make sure to install the update to the same location as the previous version. This should happen automatically as long as you don't uninstall the old version first. - Andy
