Hauppauge 34 Button Remote Question

OK ... I'll start off with "MY BAD"!

I haven't tried the Hauppauge Remote in years, but decieded to try it out on an old XP box with fresh OS an Sage build.

I installed 2 of my PVR-250 cards and drivers, Installed Sage and selected Hauppauge Remote in the Setup.

After installing, I plugged in the IR receiver and most of the buttons didn't work. Up and down worked but only went from top to bottom of the main menu.

I then read the Manual (yeah yeah I know) and was remided that I need to install the Hauppaure software BEFORE installing Sage. Arrrgh!

Of course I installed it and tried, but no change. I then did a System Restore prior to Sage install, installed the Remote software and installed Sage again. Didn't work.

I backed out of the System Restore and tried to reprogram the buttons in the Detailed Setup, but that didn't work either.

Help! What can I do? I get that I made a mistake, but really hope the penalty isn't reinstalling the enitre OS and software from scratch again.

If that doesn't work, try connecting the IR receiver cable to the other card. If that doesn't work, try to determine whether the IR receiver is working at all by opening a file called "debug.txt" in Notepad, give it focus & press buttons on the remote.

Thanks Andy ... That seems to somewhat work ... I replaced the file and it worked, but at times it seems to flake out when pressing a key and either do nothing or respond with the wrong command. If I close and reopen Sage it works again.

I was also able to reprogram some of the color keys and others.

I am wondering if the cause is I downloaded the latest Hauppauge Remote software v.2.57 from 1/20/08 rather than the software provided on the PVR250 CD. I'll try and back rev it to see if that makes a difference.

If that doesn't work I will dig around in my other PVR250 boxes and look for another remote/receiver to try.
