picture display / slideshow
I have pictures taken on my Nikon that are:
JPG 4288x28488 Why do these images not fill my screen? (My HDTV is set at 1080p 1920x1080) They appear 4:3 inside the 16:9 display. Please help. |

In the slideshow options do you have it set to enlarge picture to the full screen?

Do you have an extra digit in there? Otherwise that is one strange aspect ration...

When you say they appear 4:3, are you sure about that ratio? The picture from your camera are not 16:9 ratio. Your camera is 4288x2848 which is not 16:9, its more like 3:2, which is wider than 4:3 but not as wide as 16:9.

The pictures really are 4288x2848 jpg (sorry about the typo)
They are shot with a 12MP Nikon D90 Yes, the DX sensor in the camera is more like 3:2 However, it seems like SageTV should have no problem scaling DOWN such a large image to the 16:9 1080i HDTV screen (my windows vista media center never had trouble) I did set the "enlarge image to fit screen" option in the slide show settings. That had no effect whatsoever.... This should be easy to reproduce... Last edited by sflamm; 04-13-2009 at 08:12 PM. |

Sounds like you want Sage to crop or stretch the image. I don't think it can do that. Personally, I wouldn't want my pictures cropped or stretched for viewing.

Personally I would.

It is desired that your pictures fill the entire screen of your nice 1080p HDTV. Trust me.
There must be someway to do this. This is a typical need/feature available in all the other media centers... |

but to be clear, you wouldn't want it stretched, would you? like "Fill" aspect ratio? I guess you want to crop a bit off the top and a bit off the bottom so it fits the 16:9 screen?

cropped, not stretched if image size is larger than screen size.
when images are smaller than the screen size, it should first scale all dimensions linearly, then crop to fit (if fit to screen is selected). |

I guess everyone has their own opinion - personally I hate it when pictures or movies get distorted or chopped to fit the screen. If I choose the enlarge picture to fit screen option, I would expect it to shrink or stretch it so that it fills as much of the screen as possible without cropping or changing the aspect ratio. I would think most people would want this - and that is what it does.
However, if you would like to see something different, I would suggest submitting a feature request. There is a sticky at the top of this forum for SageMC feature requests. You can also request a feature for the core SageTV through their bug submission system. Or, if you are really adventurous, you could use Studio to create your own import to modify this behaviour - I don't think it would be too hard to do.

With proper scaling the picture quality change would be neglible.
The cropping might be noticeably depending on the aspect ratio. The point is that this would be a configurable setting. Windows Media Center does this and the pictures look AWESOME. Do you have an HDTV? Is so I imagine you'd know the worst thing is a picture that doesnt fill the screen. |

Second worst is a portrait shot rotated incorrectly Oh, by the way, I don't have a problem if this were selectable (even on a per photo basis) as I don't mind some cropping. Last edited by briands; 04-14-2009 at 08:15 PM. |

LOL
Yes, cropping the head off someone would be bad I think MSFT runs a quick 'edges' algorithm to detect faces and not crop them. I've never seen one that was cropped off. |
