SageTV Server crashing on Ubuntu
Hello,
I am changing my SageTV server from WinXP to Ubuntu Server 8.10 32bit. After many hours, I finally got my HVR-1600 working (see recent posts here - although I'm still having problems with the channel lineup) I found that when using java 1.6.0_10, the server crashes when I start up my HD-200 or Placeshifter on my Windows box. Client on my windows box works ok. After doing some reading on the forum, I decided to install java 1.5.0_16 and changed startserver.sh to run the olderversion of Java. Now, my HD-200 worked until I changed a channel, and the server crashed. The placeshifter got the initial client setup screen and then the server crashed. By "crash" I mean the server thread stops. I've looked in some of the logs, but can't make any sense out of it. I am also experiencing some glitches when everything is working, mostly using Client from my WinXP computer, but I'm not too concerned with that at the moment. Can someone help point me in the right direction to getting this working smoothly? Server: Intel Q9400 4 GB RAM 1x PATA 80GB (for now) 1x HVR-1600 tuner Clients: 2x HD-200 1x MediaMVP 1x Windows Client 1x Windows Placeshifter |

What plugin are you using for channel changing? You could try java 1.6.0_11; I had issues with earlier builds of 1.6 but 11 seems to work.

I have to apologize for starting this thread - it wasn't Sage at all. I went through a whole list of troubleshooting:
Power Supply (check voltages) Processor (stress test w/prime95) Memory (memtest) I was getting errors with prime95, which lead me down the processor road. After investigating further, I found that if I pulled one stick of RAM the tests were OK. Finally, I found the solution on Corsair's support forum. I had to push the northbridge voltage to 1.2V and things worked perfect. memtest and prime95 tested OK. Now all my clients are connecting and sage isn't crashing. I feel like such a noob. FYI: I have an Asus P5Q-SE2 MB with Corsair RAM that was bought as a matched pair (4GB in 2 sticks) and an Intel Q9400 Processor. |
