SageTV 4.1 is crashing Win2003 server
OK, I'm having lots of headaches and things aren't working quite right. Let's start with the server I built for this:
Asus A8V Deluxe Socket 939 motherboard AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2 Asus V9400-x/TD/64 - 64Meg AGP X8 video card Samsung SATA 250G HD for OS Corsair XMS (TWINX1024) 1Gig RAM X 2 for total of 2 Gig LSI Logic MegaRAID 150-6 SATA controller - 5 more Samsung SATA 250G HD set up as RAID 5 Seasonic S-12 430W PSU Sunix 2-port RS-232 expansion card Hauppauge PVR500 with additional remote ports not currently in, but plan to add Hauppauge PVR 350 from old server Software that is loaded: Windows 2003 Server Small Business - all currently available update Jave version 5.0, update 6 DirectX 9 Newest drivers for everything except video card - Video card is using default drivers in Win2003, they are actually better than manufacturer supplied ones. Almost forgot, SageTV 4.1 There are 2 problem right now: 1. After about 1-2 minutes of use, system crashes and reboots server. 2. Not as important, but may be involved with crash. Plugging into serial port and connecting to low speed data port, cannot change channels. Have tried all available serial ports. Other issues that may be relavent: - I made the change to the video hardware settings to full hardware acceleration. - All parts connecting to old server are used to connect to new server. I am currently switching back so I have something to use . - SageTV and SageTV service run automatically when server is booted. - Reason for extra serial ports is that I am planning on using 3 recivers with this when I can get it up. - On the server itself, I can not get a picture. Using client or MVP will cause the crash. I am sure that I have left a relavent point out, please let me know what I need to add to this. Thanks, Seth |

The V9400-x/TD/64 is a nVidia mx4000 - Install these drivers... it'll hopefully fix your headache. Manufacturers just take nVidia's drivers and slap their graphics into the package and usually strip down functunality to avoid tech calls. Your problem may lie in several places, turn off the auto reboot so you can see what the BSOD is telling you -- maybe the serial ports are choking the bus? Hey, THANKS a bunch. The video is working better. Now I can actually see an error message which is:
Playback Exception: ERROR (-5,0x80040256): There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback Before I could write the whole thing down, the system crashes and reboots with no BSOD. Haven't had time to search for this yet. Anybody know what that might be off the top of thier head? Again, THANKS for the help with the video driver. |

Turn off auto restart on system failure
To see the BSOD you are getting press winkey + break, click Advanced Tab, click settings for Startup and Recovery, untick Automatically Restart in the system failure portion of that properties box. You'll probably need to restart before it automatically does it for you. The BSOD could tell you garbage or it can point to the exact device that is giving you the problem, it should at least point to the bus in which the problem lies.
You can also update your chipset drivers in your motherboard... you have a VIA K8T800 Pro - http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/ch...ies/k8t800pro/ If that page doesn't point you to the drivers for it go to www.viaarena.com and see if you can find them there. Also, seeing how you already had so many BSODs, I'd do a reinstall of your system once you figure out your problem... just to keep your Windows and the FS happy and clean. AboveUnrefined, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all the help.
After spending all day Sat. and Sun. reloading this thing from scratch, it failed within the first couple of minutes on live TV from the client. At this point I am going to try Tech Support and see what they have to say. If all else fails, I guess I am going to have to lay out some cash for a different version on Windows...Any suggestions on the best flavor to work with??? |

I also had the Blue Screen of Death with version 4.1.4. It has something to Sage service. With the service running I would get the BSOD. Turn the service off and the computer runs fine. All the Receiver card software runs fine and I can use the card's software to watch TV. Turn Sage service on or run Sage and after a few minutes I get a BSOD.
I went back to 4.1.3 and it runs fine. I am running XP Pro. Last edited by rfutscher; 01-29-2006 at 07:33 PM. |

I tried to upgrade to the 4.15 and 4.16 and got the same results. I went back to 4.14 and everything is running fine. I'm using an Asus AV8 Deluxe motherboard as well running Windows XP. I'm running SageTV in service mode.
I do get this error in the event viewer Faulting application sagetv.exe, version 2.0.0.1, faulting module iviaudio.ax, version 7.0.27.130, fault address 0x0001d1a6. |

iviaudio.ax is Intervideo's Audio decoder and seems to be crashing other programs... I don't know if it's relevant in this case though. Quote:
