Extenders losing connection
I have been having this problem for a year are more. My extenders (2xMVP and 1x HD100) seem to lose contact with the server. They sometimes won't boot up or just turn off. To fix the problem I have to stop and restart the sagetv service control and sometimes reboot the extender. This problem persists no matter what sage software version I use. I have tried various versions of java and on my hd100 tried numerous firmware updates. My server is a Dell Vostro a dual core E4500 2.2ghz processor and 4 gigs of ram and my router is a Linksys Bfsr41 ver4. I have tried sage tech support but have got nowhere. Can someone please help!

Sounds like a netwrok issue. I would double check all the network cabling and patch cables being used. Maybe move one to where the router is and plug it into one of the switch ports using a known good cable or purchase a new cable and test it there.

Thanks big Ger but I have tried that. I am wondering if the router is to slow/old.

There's your problem.
Buy a separate switch and put everything on it, including the Linksys. I recommend a Netgear FS105 or FS108 if you want 10/100, or an HP ProCurve 1400-8G if you want gigabit. New pre-made CAT5e or CAT6 cables are also a good idea. Although it's a more remote possibility, it could also be the server NIC. What brand is it? (or what did Dell put on that thing?) If you say Realtek, then buy an Intel PCI NIC instead. |

I do NOT recommend using the ports on your router ever. Routers are made to be cheap. 95% of the people they are targetted at will never do anything more than internet sharing. This means they are not equipped to handle constant transfers (at least not at the rate necessary for HD video). Get a separate switch.

I have the same problem. Usually at most I have to unplug the HD200 and restart it. I restart the server for other issues (like stuttering playback, still not solved

A big thanks guys. A combination of new router and a new switch seem to have done wonders for my setup.
