Wired MVP Losing Connection

Hi,

I've been having problems with my wired MVP. On at least a daily basis it loses its connection to the server and I get a black screen. I have to restart the server to re-establish the connection. Here is a snippet from my log file.

I have hundreds of lines like this in my log files. I'm running SageTV 5.04 (service enabled) with Java 1.4. Anybody have any ideas where I should start looking for a problem? Thanks!

Aloha,
Mike

Same problem here. Really annoying.

I usually leave the mvp on because I very often can’t get sage back on if I turn it off. But lately even if I leave it on it freeze with a black screen or with the sage logo.

I don’t have to restart the server. Unplugging the mvp for 15 sec or so usually solve the problem for me (I might have to do it more than once) - until next time.

Do you send you server to sleep (power management)? I think it has something to with that.

rtengvad,

I don't use any power management. My server stays on 24x7. I have an nforce chipset mb ethernet adaptor, so a couple of hours ago I followed the directions in the sticky and disabled the "checksum offload" in the ethernet adaptor properties. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Aloha,
Mike

Edit: Nope. Didn't do a thing. Oh well. The search continues.

I'm having the same issue with the MVP, requiring a restart of the service to be able to connect again.

Off topic: Mike, my wife and I will be coming to Maui in November for our honeymoon. Any suggestions on some fun stuff to do?

Congratulations!

Lots of stuff to do here. First. I recommend stopping by one of the hundreds of racks with flyers for activities once you get here. They are everywhere. (grocery stores, kmart, etc...) It really depends on what you like. You can't go wrong with a snorkeling trip to molokini (I recommend Blue Water Rafting. They use essentially rescue boats with 10-12 people per boat. They are a bit more expensive, but the experience is much better than on the cattle-marans). There are some ranches if you like to go horseback riding. There is a nice wine tasting tour at Tedeschi Vineyards in Ulupalakua. Definitely set aside a full day for the road to hana (note there are lots of waterfalls along the way but there are also 60+ one way bridges to negotiate). Then of couse there is Lahaina town for resturaunts/night life. Iao needle near Wailuku is a great place to go for a couple of hours. Sunrise at the top of Haleakala is well worth getting up at 3am to start the trip. There are also helicopter tours of the island...and the list goes on... PM me if you need any more info.

Aloha,
Mike

Ok, this is weird. For other reasons, I removed one of my pvr150 cards (still have 1 pver150 and 1 pvr500 installed). After I restarted my computer, the MVP said that it had lost the preferred server. I re-scanned the network, found my htpc, and set it up on the MVP again. After that the UI loaded and has been running continuously for more than 24hrs. I can't remember the last time it lasted that long. I'm starting to think the problem has resolved itself. I also had issues with the sageTV UI locking up on my htpc from time to time that seems to now be resolved as well. I have to wonder if I was dealing with some heat related issues.

Aloha,
Mike

Similar issue

I started having the same type of issue with my MVP yesterday, I could not get it to restart at all. The Hauppauge splash screen would come up load app, starting app... blackscreen. Today, I tried a longer power cyling (>15 sec), after which it did restart. Strange, since I have had it running with only small sporadic problems that repowering the unit always resolved.

2 questions-
1- Mike, which logfile did you post the excerpt out of, I am interested in seeing if I have similar complaints?
2- What rev. of the Hauppauge MVP driver are you running and is this upgradable.

Info-
MVP purchased as sage bundle,
Sage 5.02 loaded originally, upgraded to 5.04 to see if this resolved - did not
Ethernet connectivity good, dhcp working, MVP address pingable from server

Thanks for any info
Andy

The log file is sagetv_0.txt

Interestingly, my MVp has now been running for >48 hours continuously. I'm still getting the same "java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: socket write error" but I don't see the other error any more.

I'm running SageTV 5.04 on the server side. I'm not sure what the MVP firmware version is.

Hope this helps.

Aloha,
Mike

Question

Any words of wisdom regarding this issue? Mine crapped out over the weekend. Locked up on the Sage screensaver overnight. Cycled the power several times; once for several hours. It has no trouble finding the factory server, but absolutely refuses to see the Sage server. Complains for 0.05sec at boot that it's connecting to a previous wireless AP but couldn't get an IP. Funny thing is it's a WIRED-ONLY unit 'direct" from Sage's store. v2.04 is displayed on the boot screen with 1.3.3 (i think) on the network setup screen. I had this thing working for a month at my previous house. network setup is the same at the new place. there are plenty of DHCP addresses available on the LAN.

Have any of you tried the mvp.bin that Demo posted in this thread? I think Sage are aware that the mvp has some serous connection problems.

My MVP had been running pretty well since I removed one of my tuner cards (mentioned a few posts back). I can't explain it. I am now in the middle of transitioning to a server/client. I just got the server up and running last night with a fresh re-install of SageTV. I fired up the MVP and it connected without issue. I'll post an update if I start having connection issues again. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Aloha,
Mike

The only problem with a new Bin file is that, it does not help with the initial connection only keeping the connection. I my case I can not connect on a regular basis. If I have more then one active IP on my server I can kiss my sage MVP connection bood bye. Drop all but the primary and every thing is fine. Stays connected, with the beta MVP.bin at least.

I may have spoken too soon about having plenty of IPs available. My sage boxen uses static IP and I poked around on the n*x router to discover that dhcpd didn't seem to be in the process list. I've got that configured now, but am out of town til tomorrow evening. I'll plug the MVP back in then and see what happens. Still not sure why it can see the Hauppauge S/W but not Sage. Funny thing is that the laptop would get a DHCP response from the LAN via the wireless AP (WAP54G, no dhcp). go figure. if I didn't laugh about it I'd be cryin. F(iance')AF is plummeting. hope I can get things ironed out asap.
