How Do I Record Directv With Sagetv

Right now I have two HDHR's that record local HD channels through QAM, and also a Directv HR21 two tuner HD DVR that records satellite.

I'd like to consolidate all recordings to Sage, and it seems that the only product that does this is the HD PVR from Hauppauge.

I guess I need to know, in addition to the HD PVR, what do I need to do to get recordings to Sage. Will my HR21 work with the HD PVR and Sage? If not, which one do I need? Also, how do I change channels with the HR21.

Basically I need a hardware list, in addition to my current components (or instead if the HR21 doesn't work).

Can someone help?

If you want to record HD from DirecTV, then Yes you need an HD-PVR. If you are content with SD, then you have many more options. But since you have an HD DirecTV box (HR21), I assume you want HD.

Your HR21 with work fine with the HD-PVR and Sage. All you will need is a means to change the channel on the HR21. This can be done via IR blaster (from the HD-PVR directly as long as you're using only one HD-PVR on your system). For multiple boxes, you would need something like the USB-UIRT. I tune my 2 DirecTV boxes (H20 and HR20), and many people prefer, using serial channel changing. You can use the much talked about Patterson device. Or you can go for the cheaper option that I am successfully using - 1 or 2 USB to Serial Converter Cable(s) and 1 Null Modem. If you have an available serial port on your PC, you'll only need one of the cables. If you don't, you'll have to go USB to USB and use two cables.
