Thumbs down pause TV and record

Sometimes rather than recording a show to watch later i will pause a show when it starts and come back in half hour and start watching it to fast forward through commercials. with my old dish DVR I would automatically store 2 hours of liveTV as long as the channel isn't changed. so i could start a show and just keep watching until I catch up to real time.

I tried to do this on my STV demo last night and i started at 7pm and paused. came back aroud 7:20 to watch. i made it through the first show but then when i caught up to live it skipped the next half hour show and showed me the 8:00 show. the 7:30 show was not recorded?

why doesn't it keep recording if i don't switch channels? is there a way to change this setting?

Sage creates 1 file per show, and if it isn't recorded it deletes it. So you paused a show at 7:20, then watched it, meanwhile Sage created a new file for the new show at 7:30, then at 8 since you weren't watching it, it was deleted, and Sage created a new file for the show at 8.

Sage doesn't use a rolling file, ie always have a file that shows the last 2 hours, no matter how many shows have started and ended. This has been a fairly heavily requested feature, mostly from people coming from other DVR systems(myself included). I'm not sure if it is going to happen, as it would change the underlying architecture pretty drastically.

There is a setting that forces the encoders to continue to record. It might cause more trouble than it is worth....

When Intelligent Recording is not enabled, Live TV is usually deleted shortly after the show is over or after you stop watching it. You can change that via the option at: Detailed Setup -> Customize -> Delete Live TV files when not using Intelligent Recording.

As a new user, you may want to check the PDF manual that is installed with SageTV, especially Chapter 2's Quick Start Guide (covers watching Live TV) and Appendix C section for Automatic Cleanup of Live TV.

Or, a fairly easy workaround, set the current show and subsequent shows to manually record (via the Program Guide). The next time the Oscars roll around I'm going to manually add the 'next program' since they usually run overtime.
