HD-PVR Channel Changing behavior w/SageTV
Greetings,
Been using SageTV for about 2 months now and really been enjoying it. First time post so I will try not to ramble on. Just wondering if anyone has this same behavior with the HD-PVR + SageTV. I am using SageTV Media Center (V6.5.9 for Windows) PC: Core2 E6850(3ghz), Vista 32bit, 4GB RAM, EVGA 9800GT 1GB, SATAII drives with the recording directory set to the D: drive (64K) w/ 1TB free space at this time. C: drive has probably about 300 GB free space. Tuner: Hauppauge HD-PVR Rev E1 connected to high speed USB directly from motherboard. Comcast Motorola DCT6200 with IR Balaster from the HD-PVR. So I noticed that when I first start SageTV and select Live TV I can see the IR Blaster send the signal to the Comcast box which sets the channel followed by the Blue light activiating around the HD-PVR (usually, sometimes take several seconds). I can then see Live TV, so far so good. If I then change the channel I can see the HD-PVR blue light go out then the IR blast to the Comast box, 5 second pause... then the HD-PVR blue light comes on and Live Video for about a second. Then the Blue Light on the HD-PVR goes out and there is another 5 second pause then Live Video starts again. Also noting that the Comcast overlay from the channel change is present for a few seconds but I think that's normal. Point is that the Blue Light on the HD-PVR seems to cycle on twice before Live Video starts and SageTV is more like a paused screen during this whole time. Ocassionaly the Blue Light on the HD-PVR will also stop and turn back on but there seems to be no consistency to it, could be 20 minutes or several hours, sometimes several days. Heat shouldn't be a factor as the room is between 60-70 degress for the most part. Sorry if I rambled but it can be somewhat hard to describe. Thanks! |

I've noticed the exact same thing on all 3 of my HD-PVR's. I've assumed the initial on/off/on is due to the channel change and then syncing to the new output resolution but I don't know for sure.
The one that occasionally happens in the middle of a recording I don't even have a theory for. It is usually so brief that I end up wondering if I actually saw anything unless I happen to being looking right at it when it happens. It doesn't seem to cause any problems but it doesn't exactly make me feel rosy either. S |

You can try adding this into your sage.properties
mmc/encoders/<some #>/delay_to_wait_after_tuning=<time in ms> I'm using 4000ms, and that way I don't see any jumping back and fourth. |

Just about 1/2 hour ago before you posted I went to start>all programs>hauppage wintv> BlastCfg application. Mine is set to North America, Cable Box, Comcast, 85 for codeset. I clicked on the 'advanced config' button and set the "Tuning Delay (ms)" to 5000 and saved the settings. I'm pretty sure the BlastCfg was not installed with SageTV, at least I think it wansnt. I think it was part of the Hauppauge software CD, Well, to my suprise it's not doing the two blue light cycles anymore when changing channels. I'll know more after some use. Seems like this may be a workaround but I like your suggestion better since the change is being done on the SageTV side, maybe I need it on both apps. I'll play around with it some more and post some feedback. SageTV rocks! I am so hooked on this software. Thanks! |

I just remembered that ON the hour and every Hour such as 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM the blue light goes out and back on, must be something do with the ability to timeshift. But the occasional drop still happens at odd times and does not occur at exactly 1/2 hour intervals on the clock. |
