Canceling Favorite in the Recording Schedule?
Is their a way to cancel favorites set to record that are showing up in the recording schedule? I have been kind of frustrated by this lately where Sage records a later show of a first run so it can record 3 other shows (that don't have reruns later), and in that way get all the shows I have set as favorites. I can't find a way to override this other than removing one of the rerun favorites and being forced to remake it later. If someone knows of a way I can get it to record the first run show and just not worry about recording one of the rerun shows that would be great. I have the first run all the way at the top of the list of shows also, and the rerun at the bottom, so it's preference doesn't seem to have anything to do with this.
If there isn't a way, it would be great if there could be a way or two added to manually do this. The first option I would like to see would be to select a show in the recording schedule and have an option to 'cancel this airing of the favorite' It would also be nice if you had this option for shows that are currently recording as well. The second option I would like to see would just to add these situations to the recording conflicts as cleared conflicts. This way we would be able to see when Sage has opted not to record the first airing of a show, instead of it just seeming like it isn't going to record the show, and we could edit the conflict to provide the desired result. Thanks. |

Marking one of the re-run favorites watched or don't like should cancel it but you would have to re-set that later as well.
You could always limit the first run favorite to that time slot and channel. Sage would probably throw a conflict at this but at least then you could choose officially. Otherwise you can always go into the series future airings or the guide and select that show as a manual record. Again, Sage may through a conflict but you could then choose.

In other words, no good choices. SageTV is not nearly as smart as we all think it should be.
It doesn't do much simpler things, like being able to cancel one instance of a future recording? Or not recording things you have deleted with "Delete it because I don't like it"? |

This is actually a very good suggestion for a new feature. Something so simple.. it affects everyone using sageTV. I wonder where we can make this feature suggestion.

I don't know what's not good about setting up the favorite for that time slot? You may get a conflict but you should be able to say "always record X instead of Y" and that would be the end of it. Just because there's no magic button to make it happen doesn't mean Sage is broken. As for marking something don't like, there is an option in the settings under "costomize" to "Use agressive negative profiling for IR" that will help prevent Sage from continuing to try and record shows you've marked as "don't like".

yeah, I'm not sure how narrowing down the day, time and channel in the Favorites Manager isn't enough. Sage doesn't create the guide data, it's at the mercy of the Zap2It's of the world and how shows are marked as repeats, first runs, etc.
what happens if you narrow it down to only record the show on the day you want and move that show above the other three in Favorites Manager, does it throw a conflict? if so, you should be able to permanently remember that conflict. otherwise you could try setting up a manual repeating "timed recording" (uses only channel and day(s)/time) and that should have higher priority than favorites. but then you lose program info I believe. I've got what I think is a more annoying issue in that one show I record (Studio Jams on Jazz BET), has NO unique show ID. None. so it records the same shows over & over & over. that's not Sage's fault, it's BET's and the guide data creators.

i wish i wish i wish there was a way to cancel a favorite recording in progress!
the number of times it has happened to me where I check on a recording part way through only to realize that the IR Blasting screwed up and the wrong channel is being recorded. If there was an easy way to cancel the recording Sage could then automatically detect and favorite record the next airing instead of me having to go and set a manual recording for the next airing and delete the wrong episode when it finishes recording. -Striker- |

SageMC even has a "wrong recording" option under delete, though my guess is it just removes all markings from the recording before deleting it.

The stock UI has that option as well. The difference has to do with Intelligent Recording. If you delete a (correct) recording without watching it, IR assumes you're not interested and counts it as a mild "don't like". If you delete because it's the wrong recording, IR makes no like/dislike assumptions about it. At least that's my understanding of it.

For what it's worth, I put in a feature suggestion to sageTV support to add:
"Cancel this airing of favorite" button to the stock UI. We can then add this to STV's like SageMC... hopefully before the full release of SageMC v6.3.8b. Quote:

Also, the stock UI does have a "wrong recording" option in the delete window. -Striker- |
