Station Identifier [ID]

I'm sorry to be so dense about this, but in the context of SageTV, what exactly [an example would be wonderful] is the station identifier and where would I find one for a channel I need to add, please.

I'm new to the PVR world and, despite Googling "Station identification" and reading Wikipedia about that, it is still not clear to me whether what the Wikipedia says about TV station identification is what SageTV wants. If I understand Wikipedia's definition, it is how the station identifies itself over the air [say "Fox Channel 5"], but I'm probably wrong about that.

Help please.

Thank you very much,

Bill Cole

I go to zap2it.com and look up my listings there. The IDs are there under the channel numbers.

SageTV uses Zap2It for guide data.

The station identifier is the four letter code usually starting with W or K that is associated with the stations radio license. WTVK, KNXV for example.

The W or K is only relevant for OTA channels which is a minority of the channels if you are on digital. The station identifier can also be ESPN, TNT, HBO, SCIFI, FOOD, MSNBC, etc, etc.

Thank you all very much. I thought it might be so simple as to be obvious and it was. Really appreciate it.
