Hauppauge HD PVR Installation Issues

I have bought the "Hauppauge HD PVR" recording device and I got some errors while trying to install the software.

Picture of the "Hauppauge HD PVR":

I took some screenshots of the windows that appeared on my screen. Something must be wrong with the drivers I guess.

I also downloaded the latest driver update here. http://www.hauppauge.com/site/suppor...ort_hdpvr.html

But the error still appeared.
I hope you guys can help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Do you see an unknown device when you go into device manger? You should be able to go into the driver tab and click on update drive and then just point it at the location where you unzip the driver you downloaded.

When you plug in the HD-PVR does windows recognize a new device is attached and ask you for a disk?

What is the OS?

You really don't need the winTV software just the drives for the HD-PVR. If you want to use the blaster and remote you can install those applications separately. I would install the TME first.

I clicked the little pop up box after I plugged in the USB. It then showed me a window with some driver options. Well, I chose the directory and it finally updated the drivers. The software is now installed too.

Another question. The HD-PVR is connected with the PC via USB. Do I have to connect the HD-PVR with my TV or with my VideoRecorder? Well, I want to record my online gaming (PlayStation 3).

The PlayStation 3 is connected with my VideoRecorder via RGB/Cinch cable. http://picture.yatego.com/images/412...0034115abb.jpg

The VideoRecorder is connected with my TV via SCART cable.

Can you tell me how to set it up if I want to play over TV/VideoRecorder and at the same time I want it recorded via HD-PVR onto my PC?

I appreciate your help.

The main purpose of the HD-PVR is to record in HD. The Composite cable you show does not do HD. You would get better picture quality form a Component cord. (Component will be Red\Blue\Green and then sound will be Red\White) I am not sure if the PlayStation comes with it but I am sure you can get one.

You need to take the cord from the PlayStation and plug it into the HD-PVR. The one you have will needs to be connected in the front of the HD-PVR. In Sage you would go through the setup and select Composite when you get to the part where it asks for a input to use. You should be able to see a preview of the input during setup as long as you installed the TME software first. I really don't know if you can use WinTV for this at all but you can also use the TME app to record.

Alright, I have bought a LCD HD TV today and some cables.

My PlayStation 3 is connected with my HDTV via HDMI cable.
http://www.konecable.com/images/hdmi_000.jpg

Now I'm not sure if I connected my HDTV with the HD-PVR correctly.
The component cord (YPrPb) plugged in my TV and the other end is plugged in the Output of the HD-PVR (Or does it have to be Input?).

Is that correct?

-----

When I start the TotalMediaExtreme software I have the following options. Can you please tell me what I should choose because I have absolutely no clue about the right settings.

Anyways, here are the options I can choose from:

Source:

Video Input:
YPrPb
S-Video
FBAS
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...2Feb252309.gif

Audio Device:
SPDIF
RCA Front
RCA Back
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...3Feb252310.gif

Device Settings:
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...4Feb252313.gif

Format Settings:
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...5Feb252313.gif

So far I didn't see any footage. Only a black screen as you can see in some of the screenshots above.
Thanks in advance. I hope you are able to help me.

Are you planing on using the HD-PVR for anything but recording from the Playstation?

To record on the HD-PVR you need to have something in the Input. The Output is just a pass thru of the signal for from the Input.

You will need to have a component cable out of the PlayStation to plug into the HD-PVR. Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16879261084
You can use the old cord and plug it into the front of the HD-PVR as well but the signal will not look as good.

The output from the the HD-PVR can then be recorded. You can watch the recorded content on the PC with the TME software or Sage but there will be few seconds of delay if you try to watch it real time.

You can hook up the the Output of the HD-PVR to the TV. (Not required for recording) This may also have a delay I really do not know. It could be problematic for playing video games if their is a delay. They do sell boxes that will split the output from the component cable that would fix this if it turns out to be a problem.

I have no idea if the PlayStation will output to both the Component and HDMI outputs at the same time. That would be the best setup if possible.

Also: some TVs will have an output as well. Mine has an output port but it only support the lower resolution of the Composite cord. Yours could be very different.

I just had a good thought. I don't need my PS3 being hooked up with the HD-PVR because I just want to capture the TV screen and since my PS3 is hooked up with the TV (via HDMI) I don't need to connect my PS3 with the HD-PVR.

If the above way is set up correctly I could play PS3 on TV and at the same time I could record the TV screen to my PC. I just need to know if the component cable of my TV has to be connected with the Output or Input of the HD-PVR.

I also would appreciate if you could tell me which settings in the TME I should use. I posted the screenshots in my last post.

Thanks.

The component connections on your TV are all inputs to the TV. Nothing is going to come out of them for you to capture.

The one an only way for you to capture from a PS3 is to connect the PS3 via component cables to the input of the HD-PVR. The passthru output of the HD-PVR is then connected to the TV via component.

The HD-PVR will also be connected to a PC via USB where you should use TME to do the capture.

TME is much better suited for this then Sage which is designed to be a PVR for recording from TV tuners.

Alright, so I definately have to get the Component cable for PS3 to record in HD.

I'll try to get this stuff working via Composite cable too later just to see if the recordording works.

Thanks guys. I'll post back when I have more information/questions.

I finally received my Sony AV Component cable and I did set it up like that. For some reason the TME software doesn't recognize it. It recognizes the device but there's nothing I could record. I need serious help because I want to start recording HD with the PVR.

I tried the freeware programme "DScaler" but it just gave me an error. I will upload a screenshot later. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...1Mar181857.gif

I am going to try the software (WinTV2000) I got as I received my Hauppauge HVR TV Stick. Gives me an error too -> hTV=0 http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...2Mar182228.gif

I'm wondering why the TME software doesn't recognize my TV signal.
You guys are my last hope.

If you take the cord form the PS3 to the TV do you get a picture?

Make sure you have plugged it into the in part of the HD-PVR.

Take PS3 Component cable plug in to HD-PVR on the bottom RCA jacks that is your input the top RCA jacks are output it gose to your TV set also be sure the PS3 is on before running TME software.
Try rest setting your Video setting on the PS3, Turn it off then on but you hold down the power button of the PS3 when you are turning it on, it completely resets the video settings to the most basic settings.
