Upgrade to version 6 worth the price?

I have an older version of SageTV, think I started with about version 2 and the key I have allows for use up to version 4, which I had been using until my old hardware died.

After over a year of no HTPC, I decided to rebuild. All I really do with SageTV is record and watch shows (have two tuners, not HD). I rarely use it to watch live TV. I tried using it for my digital jukebox and my MP3 collection, but for whatever reason it was waaayyyy too buggy (audio would cut out after 1 or 2 songs.

I dont plan on using it for much more than what I used to use it for when I finish rebuilding my machine. I am considering using other freeware HTPC software in hopes getting the jukebox feature working because $40 in hopes that the jukebox feature works this time around is a leap I am not willing to take.

Yeah.... I just dont want to spend the time configuring everything to find out that it isnt worth the effort.

I guess I wont be lazy and try it and hope it works right this time. Just dissapointed that I already bought it, but it didnt completely work the first time, and now may have to buy it again to get a version that works for me.

Copy out the old directory somewhere. If you don't like the new version uninstall the new. Copy back the old directory and then reinstall the old Sage program.

Watch that the new version will want to install itself in a different directory then the old one. New installation no longer uses the Frey Technologies\SageTV\SageTV. It drops the Frey Technologies directory. So if you want to upgrade the existing installation you need to actually browse to the old directory.

Hmmmm after searching through my old post about the original problem.... it still seems like it is an issue that has not been resolved, at least not in version 6.1......

6.1 was quite some time ago. You can specify what mp3 codec you want to use now.

That's not exactly to solve your problem, but it should tell you what you need to do. For a quick MP3 filter, configure ffdshow tryouts to support it.

If you are happy with the features of the older version, then just stick with it. IMO, Sage version 6 and above is not as stable as it used to be.

I jumped to Version 6 for the support of DVB-T (I am in Australia), and after more than two years of trying the new versions. Some same old bugs are never fixed. Newer versions do bring you new features, but IMO they also introduce new bugs as well.
