Help, No EPG Data

Hey all,

My EPG data is not downloading. In a last-ditch effort to fix this, I removed my source and added it again. Now when I go to setup my lineup I get and error that says "There was an error connecting to the SageTV server". I have checked my internet connection and everything is ok. I have checked the firewall, etc. Everything is ok. The EPG just stopped downloading data on 2/10. I am not sure why.

Could someone please help. LOML is mad because she missed a show.

Thanks again,
Rob Hix

sorry i can't be of much help with this post, but it may help others to diagnose, if you post what source you have, ie: Comcast, DirectTV, etc, and what version of Sage you have.

I, for one, have not had any issues with the EPG download service, and we have been quite pleased with this feature of SageTV.

Check that the required firewall ports are open and perhaps check this EPG FAQ.

Andy,

Thanks, but as far as I can tell all of that is OK. Like I said, this just stopped working all of a sudden last night. I am about to restore to a known good day and see what happens.

You could see what the debug log says to see if it has more info, but my first guess was the firewall because you said it couldn't download a list of providers while setting up a new source. I checked & was able to download the providers, so the SageTV EPG server is working. Are you sure there wasn't some sort of update on your PC that reset the firewall port that SageTV needs to be able to contact the EPG server?

Andy,

I finally figured it out. My software firewall was ok, it was the router firewall that was blocking. I tried the port forwarding, but no dice. So, I had to turn down the security setting on the firewall to get it to work. Once I remembered that I had a router reset about two weeks ago, I knew right where my problem was.

Now, if I could just get port forwarding to work I would be out of the woods on this.

My EPG just stopped working as well. I don't specifically recall a router reset but then I have short term memory problems. I hope I can figure it out.

I checked my little notebook, I'm glad I take notes - apparently this happened to me before. The solution in the past was a pseudo-reinstall which consits of deleting these two files:

- Sage.Properties
- Sage.Propertiees.AutoBackup

I'll try that when I get the chance, unfortunately that computer is in use right now.

Well, it worked, although it forced me to reselect/ reinstall the channels (I had to re-add each of the tuners to the source list). I have two tuners, took about 20 minutes total. Not too bad I guess.

It happened again, this time I found a faster solution. I simply go into Channel Setup, select "Disable all Channels", and then "Scan for available channels."

As my two different tuners draw from two different program listings, I had to do it a second time to get the EPG fully populated.

Didn't have to mess with the "properties" file or reinstalling the software.
