recording split into multiple files
I just switched computers and I'm having a couple of problems getting set up again.
1) The recording splits into multiple files and it appears that there is a gap between the end of one file and the beginning of another. 2) The sound and video are not sync'd. Suggestions? Thanks. |

Run the manufacturer (or comparible) diagnostic utility on your harddrive. Could be a glitch there.
Also, if you are running a network based capture device (HDHomerun) check all your network stuff (could be a bad nic, could be a bad hub or switch, etc). Those are good places to start. More info on your setup would be helpful as well.

try Process Explorer
You can also try process explorer by sysinternals (now with microsoft) to check which processes are using the most CPU.
Windows indexing when running can max the disk activity for a few seconds at a time causing breaks and glitches in a video recording. (when this used to happen to me Task Manager wouldn't even show it ... it would lock at 0% and by the time it unfroze it would stay at zero - 500Mhz processor) AntiVirus scanning video files can be a problem (Exclude *.mpg) A Different driver release can cause many deferred procedure calls slowing the system down too much. (a newer driver mixed with a newer install may have many more IRQ's while an older driver may be more 'stable') A program called RATT3V (I think) by microsoft can log the Deferred Procedure Calls and if they are way too high you can try rolling back the afflicted driver. (this time it was a new network adapter driver) Checking any or all network cables, switches, routers and adapters is always a good first step for a networked system. Does the audio and video sync better after stopping and starting the video a few times? if so let Sage know I hope some of this may help ... Bobby
