Hi,
I am pretty sure I looked through the entire forum looking for solutions, and I have tried a number of things, I just don't understand what is going on.
Basically, 3D Acceleration continually resets to "Disabled" whenever it is set to "Enabled". If I do this through the wizard with testing, the descriptions of "Advanced" or "Standard" originally say "3D Acceleration ON". As soon as I test it or try to set it, it then says "3D Acceleration OFF".
In the detailed settings setting "3D Acceleration" to "Enabled" looks like it works. There is a UI adjustment, followed by a second UI adjustment after a second (from reading other threads there is a slight difference in location of UI elements with 3D enabled and disabled). As soon I highlight any UI button resets to "Disabled" folowed by a single UI adjustment back to normal. The "Use Full Screen Exclusive Mode" option appears and disappears during this process. Additionally, another weird behavior is that if I click to make it "Enabled", I can keep clicking the button and it remains on "Enabled", sometimes there are additional UI adjustments back and forth when I do this.
So, I checked that my card actually supports 3D hardware acceleration. It is the Intel GMA950 (
http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/index.htm), which sports hardware acceleration. Next, I checked dxdiag.exe. Runs nice, reports both DirectDraw and Direct3D acceleration are enabled. I ran the tests, saw everything I was supposed to. AGP Texture Acceleration is not available, but according to
https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29287 that doesn't matter, he had acceleration on without that being available.
I installed the latest DirectX from Microsoft (9.0c, updated in December 2008). Still no go.
So what is the deal with this? The annoying parts are with anything that is supposed to be semi-transparent shows up with hashes, unless I turn off the "Overlay Color Keying". If this is off though, the popup dialogs while playing video first make a large black square as they animate in. And from what I gather the menus will be faster when 3D acceleration in on.
Thanks for your input.
