Can I download recording then watch?

Now that we have the HD200's capable of running standalone, I'm wondering if there's a way to use my PC to download one of my SageTV Recordings, copy it to a thumb drive and then watch it on the HD200, eliminating the need for bandwidth and/or transcoding and allowing me to watch my recordings from a remote location in full res. I was hoping the webserver would have a way to download, but I couldn't find it.

I assume you want to do this while you are on your local network.

you could use the file browser built into sage and just do a copy but it can be a little hard to locate the recording you want to copy.

what i do is use the external apps plugin with a command file along the lines of

xcopy "%~d1%~p1%~n1.*" "m:\" /y

where M: is where you have assigned your external drive to

this will allow you to select a recording in sagetv recordings, go to recording details-options-external apps and execute your command file

which in the above case would copy the media file and all associated files comskip, properties etc to your external drive

obviously you could add all sorts of error checking and notifications etc to the command file but that should give you a start

thanks for the reply. I re-read my post and can see that I wasn't very clear.

Say I'm at a hotel and I have a laptop and my HD200. Instead of placeshifting with the HD200, I'd like to use my laptop to download a recording, copy it to a flash drive and then use the HD200 in standalone mode to watch it. This would allow me to remotely watch the recording at the quality level it was recorded. I was wondering if there was a way to do the download using the webserver. When I use the webserver to look at the detailed information for a recording, I see links to watch it: "Watch (Streamed)" and "Watch (Local File)". I guess I need to find out what "Watch (Local File)" does. I was hoping that meant to download it first, giving you a local copy to watch.
