How do I change the tuner/encoder #'s

I have a total of 6 tuners. However, I definitely dont want them in the order that sageTV Channel Setup has them listed... It looks like the channel lineup associated with the channel source manipulates the tuner order.

For example, I dont want my 3rd R5000 on tuner #5, when it should be tuner #3; just because it has a different channel line than the first two. For some reason my HDHomerun tuner is forced to go in it's place.

I tried to manually change my properties file, but mine has so much information in the EGP related area, it makes me dizzy just looking at it.

PS: I know there's a sageTV import that overrides the name of the encoder/tuner. However, that's not what I'm asking here.

I don't think it has anything to do with channel lineup; I think it's an artifact of the order in which devices get enumerated by the OS. You could try switching things around to different PCI slots and/or USB ports, but it's going to be a trial-and-error process.

I guess my question would be why does it matter? Apart from the video source setup screen (which you presumably deal with only rarely), what situation are you running into where device order makes a difference?

(I assume you know about encoder_merit for controlling the order in which the scheduler assigns tuners.)

My tuners are mostly USB. Changing USB ports doesnt change the order around. I identify the tuners by tuner # in the guide, scheduled recordings, parallel recordings, etc.. in sageMC theres are relatively big icons 1,2,3,4,5,6 that represent each tuner with respective specific lineups. Merits are already set. There's gotta be a way to have more control of the order which sageTV adds these tuners...

The way you describe it, it seems more like a UI issue than a Sage core issue. You don't really care what order Sage uses to initialize tuners; what you care about is having meaningful labels in the UI. Seems to me you'll likely get more traction on that by bringing it up the with SageMC UI devs than by lobbying for a core change in the way tuner devices are enumerated.

For instance, SageMC could get a list of tuner devices from Sage, sort it into some canonical order (alphabetical by name, for instance), and use that ordering (instead of the pseudo-random internal device ordering) to label tuners by number. That's how I'd do it anyway.

I am not aware of how you change the actual number.

If the merits are set correctly with highest number for the favorite tuner, that is the best you can do in Sage.

Yeah, except, this affects more than one STV (not all my sageTV clients have sageMC). It would be more appropriate to fix it in one place instead of multiple places...
