advice on upgrading?

I've been running sage since ~november 06 and havent bothered to update anything since then. havent run into any issues, and my wife has settled into it, so i figured i'd leave it as is.

however, i had some hardware failures and am going to be putting together a new machine next week. I figure I may as well upgrade to the latest version of sage available at the same time, but I'd like to minimize the amount of tweaking that I need to do in terms of settings.

I'm currently running sage V5 with sageMC and some other addons to allow control of STB's via firewire.

Is there anything I can do now in terms of backing up files so that I won't have to play around too much with the new setup? My wife is also concerned about our viewing history being lost in the process (she doesn't want to re-record everything just to set it to watched).

Any other tips would be appreciated as well.

thanks

You don't have to re-record it to mark it as watched. You can set shows in the guide or upcoming recordings views as watched and Sage will remember them and remove them from the upcoming recording schedule. Same with don't likes and favorites.

Backup the whole SageTV folder and then copy it to the new machine and put it where you plan to install SageTV, usually c:\program files\SageTV. Make sure the drives where you store the recordings are the same letter drive in the new machine, such as D:\recordings. Then install new SageTV 6.4 on top of the old version. You might have to update SageMC, but I'm not 100% sure. You most likely have to redo the firewire steps to control STB as it is not something that SageTV official supports..
