SageTV V 5.0.4 - Need help

My brother-in-law has a broken PC and SageTV which he claims has never worked. I am now charged with fixing it. He's owned Sage for a couple years. The Sage file shows 5.0.4.

Is this the most recent version to which he is entitled or is there an updated version which his license covers?

I've never used Sage (I use GB-PVR) but I assume the install is pretty straightforward - XP SP3, PVR 150. Any quick tips/traps?

It all depends on what version the license was purchased for -- see the license notes at the bottom of the downloads page.

Thanx Opus,

Is it safe to assume that because the the Sage file is 5.0.4 that means he has a V 5.0 license or is it possible that he has a 4.1 license and got a free upgrade to V 5.0?

I know he would never have paid for an upgrade (4.1 to 5) and I also know he would have no idea which license he has (he claims it has never worked. Not for a single day). Until I fix it for him, he has put sage completely out of his mind.

He could have an earlier license -- v6 was the first version to have an upgrade fee, for pre-v5 licenses.

Is there a way (email address?) for sage to tell me what version he is licensed for?

Yes, contact SageTV with the purchase info (usually: name & email address) and they can look it up. If you have the key, they should be able to tell from that.

If you have the date of the purchase, you can check the announcements forum here to see what version had been last released at that time.
