HVR-2250 (QAM) strange Capture issue (Solved)

I’m having some issues with an HVR-2250 and need some help troubleshooting. Any suggestion appreciated.

1st the good – recording a single QAM HD feed with the 2250 produces great quality, no skips or pixilation. The feed can be viewed “live” with either of my clients without a problem.

The bad – When I request an additional recording simultaneously with the QAM feed, the 2250 QAM feed goes to crap immediately. Skipped frames, audio dropout and pixilation occurs about every 3-7 seconds. This occurs with “live” or recorded streams and as far as I can tell is a capture issue. The second feed can come from either an analog tuner on the 2250 or the HD-PVR. When I cancel the second recording, the 2250 QAM signal goes back to normal (on the fly)

What I’ve done so far:
- Rewinding the video in Sagetv produces the same exact stutter/skip at the same recording location.
- VLC produces the same exact playback glitches
- HHD’s are defragged & 64 cluster size
- I’ve forced the recordings to separate drives and even split 2 streams (one to each drive) without any effect
- Cleaned up all my cable feeds & splitters. A single -3.5dB drop feeds the HVR-2250 from the outside drop.
- Viewed my STB diagnostics & used Hauppauge’s “Signal Quality Monitor” software. Signal looks good, no uncorrectable errors SNR=40.
- I just purchased the 2250 so I’ve recently run hcwclear, removed my old PVR-150 & HVR-1600 and reinstalled only the HD-PVR then HVR-2250 drivers

Server specs: Intel 775MB, Q6600, 1x-750GB, 1x-300GB, XP-Pro, SageTV-6.5.2 (6.5.1 same issue), HD-PVR, HVR-2250, all wired Gigabit LAN network serving 2 clinets & 1 PS. The clients all have different setups but all playback the HD-PVR fine so I won’t list the specs.

thanks,
rob

There are some files that have been updated to better support the HVR-2250 with SageTV 6.4.8. Have you installed them? I'm not sure where to get the files, but you might start by looking for the big HVR-2250 thread using the forum search function.

EDIT:

This thread should help:

Thanks for the suggestion.... OK - I've tried the TSSplitter/DShowCapture/fast_mux_switch=false in v6.5 without any change in the issue. I'll fall back to 6.4.8 with this fix and see what happens.

This statement in the v6.5 release notes: (15. Fix: HVR-2200 and HVR-2250 can't record on its duel analog tuner at the same time) ... gave me the impression v6.5 didn't need the above fix. It also gives me the impression that the new beta is the 1st SageTV version which officially supports the 2250.
Which version to use? suggestions?

I'll also try re-installing the hauppauge drivers. Maybe changing the install order of the hd-pvr & 2250 makes a difference. Anyone have this combination working ok with QAM on the 2250 side?

Edit: (also tried..)
- revert back to 6.4.8 (with/&/without above linked fixes)
- ran hcwclear again and added the 2250-1st / hdpvr-2nd (only a single QAM feed from the 2250)
Still nothing!

Well I finally got it working so this thread is dead.

Don't know the exact culprit but my 2250 is NOT an RMA. I ended up removing all drivers & SageTV including the entire SageTV directory. I then reinstalled the 2250 & hd-pvr drivers, SageTV v6.5.2 and everything went smooth. I didn't even need the fixes that were listed in post #2.

I'm guessing the properties file had some remnant values which were causing havoc. I've hung onto that thing through a lot of betas (including various tweaks & fixes). Goodbye old property file.... hello HD goodness.
