How do I get TW basic cable ClearQAM channels?

Hi all!

I just got a Hauppauge 1800 tuner card the other day and decided to download the free trial for SageTV. I have Time Warner basic analog cable in Los Angeles. I can get STV to tune into the all the regular analog channels just fine into my local program guide.

I have a separate HDTV and noticed TW broadcasts all the local OTA HD channels as well as a dozen or so local DTV channels in ClearQAM as well. I am having the hardest time figuring out how to tune into these digital channels. My card has dual tuners, with one input being "ATSC/QAM," and the other being "Analog cable TV." I am able to achieve my analog cable channels in the Analog Cable input. I attempted to channel scan with my cable attached to the ATSC/QAM input and nothing came up... Theoretically, I should have triple redundancy with these local (CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, PBS etc) channels... SD, DTV, and HD....

Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for all who can help!

PS-My current OS is XP Pro... don't have MCE or Vista Ultimate yet... if thats a factor

Ok... using the app that came with my card, WinTV 6, I was able to pull all the digital QAM channels in its channel scan... so I know my card and its digital input works... but that program is EXTREMELY unstable

I have a 2.53 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo E7200
2gb DDR2 800 RAM
Huge HD
Evga 8600GTS 256mb video card...

Hmm...

Furthermore, since the channel scan failed, I input some random channels manually, and some do infact have a strong signal strength, so I think I'm on the right track but I still got nothin...

At the top of this forum, there's a sticky topic for tuner configuration instructions. There is a link for setting up a 1600, which may be fairly similar to your 1800, so check that out.

Thanks... I followed the guide step by step and stopped short of the remapping instructions... STV detects 12 channels (which is about a dozen short or so) all of which are getting a 79% signal. However... in the little preview window, it insists, "No Signal"

Sigh

I don't know what other folks are getting for quality, but I'm rarely below 93% on my Time Warner incoming QAM (my apartment is about 100 ft from the main Time Warner inside wiring panel, and I'm operating about 8 cable devices). Perhaps Sage has a "cutoff" point at which it will not accept tuning for a particular channel if the quality is below a certain point.

On a sidenote, my unencrypted Time Warner stuff is about 24 channels, like yours, but only about 12 of them are even worthwhile, and they are the same channels that come in via "over the air" HD antenna reception. Have you considered just hooking up your ATSC tuner to and OTA antenna instead? (I suppose this could prove challenging for the link back to the Sage guide).
