There was a problem rendering....

OK. I downloaded a demo version of SageTV before I buy. However when I attempt to play either a ripped DVD, or play an actual DVD disc, I receive the same error.

"There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback."

The odd thing is, the same files play fine on my laptop, again with a demo of SageTV installed. I've tried every combination of playback modes that are available, but still get the error.
My machine has an ATI Radeon HD 3450. I've removed and reinstalled the drivers and CCC, however no luck. I've set the deinterlacing in CCC to Automatic, and every other setting. Still nothing.
Both the desktop and laptop are WinXP Pro. Help!?
Kind of makes my buying decision easy if I can't get it to work!

First guess: have you selected a DVD-capable decoder in Detailed Setup -> DVD?

Thanks for replying, Andy. Yes, I've used "Default, ATI MPEG and SageTV" decoders, they all seem to do the same thing. I've also set the rendering to both overlay and VMR9. Other suggestions?

But, are any of those ale to decode DVDs? I didn't think the SageTV decoder could, but I have no idea about ATI MPEG.

Is there a decoder that you recommend?

Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 handles DVD and will also handle h.264. I use that.
