sage 6.4 client versus 6.2 server

Can I run the 6.4 (windows) client with a 6.2 server?
Goal: Assess 6.4, decide if I should update the server.

The primary use is server to a std def MVP.

The client does not have all of the Sage Core so you will not get the core updates. It's also possible that some of the STV changes that rely on the core updates will not work.

Bottom line is that you will have to update the server.

upgrading server.. yikes, risk. I guess the only foolproof way is to buy a spare tuner and use a trial version of Sage 6.4 on a different PC before taking the plunge.
Or maybe I'm too paranoid. I just know that if I lose the wiz.bin file of history of watched, and favorites, it would be ugly. But maybe I'm too paranoid - have have lots of backups.

Sage is an appliance here, like the stove or refigerator, or more.

Just backup your wiz.bin, if something goes wrong, reinstall 6.2 and put back the backup.

Then why are you looking to upgrade your clients?

I was merely going to use the 6.4 client to see what improvements they've made in the GUI. If I like it, I'd hope to change the server and the GUI we use in the std def MVP would be the same as I saw on the PC client. The MVP std def doesn't look good. It seems that they design it using a PC's screen and it looks great there, but not so on an NTSC TV set via the Hauppauge MVP, std def which is perhaps quite a bit fewer pixels than they see on a PC screen equivalent.

The 6.2 MVP GUI has a low WAF due to
- fonts too small in most menus (we're not all 35 yrs old)
- Function choice icons leftmost in some menus are unwanted/never used and too easy to activate. SUch as changing the sort order or filtering. Need option to disable all this eye candy.
- Menus are not arranged with most-often DVR-like uses on top of lists to reduce number of button pushes to do common things, such as delete a recording. Gosh, it's like 6-8 buttons to do so.
- No simple/obvious way to cancel an active recording of a favorite
- Watch Live TV - too hard to cancel recording if you do something to change menus but leave the recording going

(And I don't want to program the GUI myself - just common simplicity for the DVR mode)

Well, I can tell you now, that none of that changed in 6.4.
