Client cannot connect to server
I am usually pretty good at this sort of thing, but I am baffled...
I recently upgraded my laptop, and cannot connect to the sagetv server with client. Here are some details: I have been successfully running client for years on my old laptop. I have two client licenses, one sagetv license, all v6. I uninstalled client on old laptop. I have restarted server a number of times. I have tried both license numbers (both have been uninstalled). I have tried the register command to clear the licenses. I have deactivated the firewall, and made sure ports are open. Just for yuks, I downloaded the trial for placeshifter, and I am able to connect without a problem. Here is the error message I get when I try to connect using the name of the server or the ip address of the server: Unable to connect to the SageTV server at the specified address. Please make sure you entered the name/IP address correctly and that you have enabled the SageTV Server option in Detailed Setup->Advanced on the SageTV Server. (2) From all this, I don't think it is a license issue, but I cannot get connected to the server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

You mentioned the firewall, but double check the firewalls on both the server & laptop to make sure they are allowed to talk to each other. See this FAQ for ports SageTV needs to have open. Maybe the server sees the laptop at a new address & isn't allowing the client through. (Is PS connecting over the internet or via the LAN?)

Thanks Andy,
Yes, I have deactivated firewall on both sides, and made sure ports are open on both sides. Since the server was already working, I know that is not a problem on the server side anyway. PS has connected both through the internet and LAN. |

I fought a similar problem a few weeks ago, when I upgraded my client after rebuilding the PC. After a few hours of pulling my hair out I discovered the server and client have to be the same version. Upgraded the server and I was on my way again.
