HVR-1600 + HVR-1250 = Conflict under Vista
Just bought a new computer from Circuit City with Vista Premium. First mistake was that it only has 1 PCI slot. Oh well, I went out and bought a HVR-1250 to give me two tuners. Problem is that installing the HVR-1250 seems to have disabled my HVR-1600. 1250 works fine, but the 1600 has no signal. Device manager shows no problems.
Going through the typical troubleshooting routines, but right now the computer is taking FOREVER to shut down, with lots of disk activity. So I thought I'd take a little break and post here. If I figure this out, I'll post for the record.
UPDATE: The computer eventually did shut down without powering off but still no luck getting two tuners to work. I just put a second 1250 in and took the 1600 out. Both 1250's seem to work, but they don't pick up all the channels, so I'm doing a rescan right now. Now that I have two extra 1600's, I guess I'll build another DVR.
BTW, as I was putting the second card in, I noticed the slot opening cover in the back of the Compaq case wasn't the usual piece of metal that slips out. The cover was attached and had to be removed by bending back and forth to break the tabs holding it place. As I was doing this, I made the mistake of pushing hard on the free end, promptly slicing my thumb open. Nothing a band aid won't fix, but it was pretty painful.
UPDATE #2: I think I've fixed the issue. When adding a different kind of Clear QAM tuner card, you need to scan with that card. I mistakenly thought frequencies were frequencies, but I guess not. Time to update my signature.
