Relaying remote codes through MediaMVP

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out a way to program a button my Hauppauge remote to send a certain IR code out of the USB-UIRT hooked up to my Sage Server.

My problem is that I use Dish Network for standard TV watching. I have 4 dish receivers, and they're all set up on a different range of IR, so I only need one USB-UIRT. I have four tuner cards, each setup with their own set of IR codes for each Dish box. It all works well, except every once in a while, I'll tune to a channel that Dish has decided to blackout for some reason (it's not an invalid channel, they just made that show unavailable for my area).

The problem is that Sage cannot change the channel away from this error screen from Dish. The Dish box will only accept a channel up/down key (it won't accept number keys, which is what Sage uses to tune the channel).

Setting the tuning to prefix the channel number with a "channel down" keypress doesn't solve it either, because sometimes my satellite boxes get confused and the first (and sometimes second) digits of the channel don't go through.

What I'd like to do is this: Program one of the custom SageTV commands (Custom1, Custom2, etc.) to one of the buttons on the hauppauge remote that I don't use. Then, I'd like to (somehow) get this Custom1 command to send the correct Channel Down command for whatever tuner i'm currently on.

Does this sound possible?

Just an update on this,

I got my studio working finally (totally different problem) and started messing around.

Here's what I did:

Added a Listener widget for "Custom1" to the "Mediaplayer OSD", under it I check if the current media file is being recorded (to make sure you're on live TV and not just watching a recording). If you're watching a show that's being recorded, then I get the encoder name from the current media file, and look up a new property that I created in sage.properties that is named after the encoder name. The property contains the raw IR code that I want to send out of the USB-UIRT. Then, I call ExecuteProcess to launch an .exe on the server to interface with the UIRT to send a code out.

Will this work, theoretically?

The one thing I'm concerned about is if Sage does something to lock the USB-UIRT so it can have exclusive access to it. Does Sage do this?

Sorry to keep double (triple) posting like this, but I keep making progress, and I don't want to waste people's time if they happen to be researching something I already figured out.

So far I've got the Sage modification part done. I've linked the Custom1 command to determine what encoder is being used by the current recording, grab the correct IR code from the properties file for that encoder, and launch an .exe on the server with the IR code as a parameter.

The only thing left I've got to do is create the .exe to send the IR code from the USB-UIRT, and that shouldn't be too difficult to do.

Modifying stuff in Studio is easier than I thought it'd be!

Well I guess I shouldn't have posted anything after all, I got everything working just fine! Now I can use a button on my hauppauge remote to tune off the annoying dish error messages.
