Resume DVD playback on HD extender?
I have a few DVDs ripped as vobs and imported into SageTV. They play great--even the menus--but one thing that hasn't worked is resuming a DVD after it's been stopped. A dialog does come up asking if I want to "Resume Playback" or "Start from the Beginning," but either way the playback starts from the beginning. This is really the only thing stopping me from ripping my whole library.
I've searched the forum for this already and, while there have been a few threads related, they mostly 1. about resuming playback on a PC client, 2. about resuming playback from a "real" DVD, 3. degenerate into discussions about "why would you need to do that?" Has anyone gotten this to work reliably on the HD extender? Thanks, Rich |

No. I have the very same problem on some of my DVDs. Or that the language settings has changed on resume

Never had resume work on the MVP or the HD100. End up having to use the Scene selection method to get close.

I only rip the main movie and not the menus/special features and restarting the video from where I left off works perfectly fine on both my HD100 and MVP's. I wonder if it is a difference between ripping the whole movie and just the movie itself?
I only rip the movie itself since I rarely ever watch the extras....

This is only the tip of the Iceberg with DVD playback in Sage.
Mine also does not resume from where it stopped, it tries, but alas does not quite do it. The other problem I was having is FF-RW of the DVD in Sage, it didnt matter what software I used to rip, with or without the extras, menus etc. Anytime you would FF-RW it would lock up the HD Extender for up to 5 minutes before skipping randomly through the rest of the DVD then stopping. I reported the issue to Sage and was told to try the new beta firmware, it did not fix the problem. The DVD playback function also has problems with some DVD root menu's, in other words you cant select the items on some ripped titles. All this being said Sage has been rock solid since moving to a dedicated media server and extenders, I do NOT MISS JACKING WITH PC'S!

Its gotta be the menus and the extras then. I just pulled up a movie that I ripped using DVD Fab HD Decrypter and had no problems. I chose their Main Movie only option for all of my DVD's just to save the space. Hitting :10 or 2:30 skips worked flawlessly and the smooth fast forward (tested all the way to 64x) worked fine with a few second delay before the video started playing after I hit the play button (to take it out of fast forward).

If it isn't working with menus, I would file a report with SageTV. I only rip main movie for space considerations.

My resume works with both menus and without. I have used both DVDFab HD Decrypter and their DVDFab Platinum w/Mobile option. (Paid version) I've used nVidia decoders and PowerDVD 7 and 8 for playing DVD rips with no issues for resume.

I think this problem is specific for the extenders - mvp and HD100.

I'd say resume usually works on my HD100, though it doesn't remember the selected audio/subtitle streams. Though it does occasionally just start at the beginning after selecting resume. This with whole and movie-only DVDs.
Can't remember the last time I had trouble with a menu on the HD100. |

On my 4:3 TV the selection marker on widescreen menus is way out of line with the background graphics.

I watch ripped DVDs on my HD100 all the time. And resume is working for me (although I don't recall doing a resume in a few weeks) - this is for movies where I rip the movie only without extras as well as TV DVDs where I rip the entire disc with extras & menus.
I'll check again tonight just to be sure its still working for me. |

Sheild:
To be a little more clear, I have two ripped DVD's that the menu does not work properly on with the HD-100. Two out of over 100 ripped DVD's. This in no way should be taken to mean dont buy the HD-100 it is an excellent product, if I were to list all of the problems I had running Sage on a PC client would be too numerous to mention. My FF-RW problems are mine and a few other people on this website, not the majority. All this being said, the HD extender is still the best product I have purchased for that price in years. The last device I had that performed this well was my first DirecTivo machine, it was a workhorse. So I stick to my guns in the other post, dump the PC for a client and get a HD extender. Worst case buy it, deidcate the PC you have now for a server, if you dont like the extender you can always sell it to someone here later.

I've had problems with DVD resume on the HD extender too. All my ripped DVDs have all menus. But I also have this problem on a PC client as well. So I'm not convinced its just an extender problem. I've had the problem appear and disappear at various times on the PC client and I've never been able to figure out why.
I'm using SageMC.. not sure if that has anything to do with it. |

For what it's worth, I submitted a support request and got back a response: "We are aware of this issue and it has been put down on our bug list."
Thanks everyone for your feedback. Rich |

I am still having this problem using the latest beta release.
Is this being addressed? It is quite frustrating. FYI, lately I rip all my DVDs in their entirety using AnyDVD. |

Just wanted to add another point of reference. My DVD rips all seem to work fine (ripped using MyMovies on WHS) except that DVD resume is quite sporadic in its reliability (using HD200 in extender mode).
Blu Ray rip resume is flawless. DVD resume usually jumps me to the beginning of the movie (or just past the beginning.) Odd thing is that DVD file resume is much more reliable in media player (standalone) mode. But standalone mode is much less easily customizable, so I prefer to use extender mode. Reliability of DVD resume is the one thing keeping me from buying a couple of more HD200s - this would be a killer issue for my wife who is used to using the old Roku Photobridges for watching DVD files which has a third party app that resumes playing flawlessly. (By the way, the method that the app uses is to save a small file in the folder where the video is kept which saves the place along with the aspect ratio.) Bill |

I have not seen this with a HD200 in extender mode. I have over 400 DVDs on the server and have resumed flawlessly from most of them (over 100) at one time or another. I haven't had to resume from all of my DVDs.
