I'll add that I'd really like to see it. There are still advantages to having a real client PC. For one, you can play back DRMed content (Amazon Unbox, Cinemanow, etc) web content.

I was actually one of the original people who asked SageTV support for EVR (almost a year ago); before most people even knew to ask for this.. taking it all the way up to the CEO. I can't get into details since I'm bound by NDA. But, I can say that it's not that simple to just add it. This is ONLY a guess.. but by now, they probably might have made a lot of progress considering from the first time they were made aware of this need.

A safe guess I would say.

I fully understand this is a difficult task, and that they're aware, and that they're working on it. Also, EVR support might seem like it's for a small amount of gain as many Sage'rs (SageTV Users) stick with XP and EVR isn't supported by any non-Vista OS.

It's my belief that once EVR is supported, any SageTV Client user using a flavor of Windows other than Vista will gladly upgrade. It's said in these forums many times "Tell me what works and I'll buy it." Windows Vista + Nvidia 85xx or better + Sage with EVR support will work flawlessly for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 hardware accelerated video. For now however, I'm using this setup. Maybe EVR is on the plate for 7.0?

Maybe it's not "supported", but I use EVR everyday in XP thanks to .NET 3.0.

But not with SageTV, right? If so, HOW? Applications must be modified to work with EVR.

No not in Sage, I use it in Zoom Player along with the Haali renderer. If by modified you mean programmed to work with it, yes.
MPC Home Cinema version, GBPVR and I think even Media Portal and TheaterTek have support for it.

Per my thread EVR Support Lagging Behind Competition, yes those applications have had EVR support for some time:

Mediaportal EVR Support
GBPVR Support (as of Nov 2007)
ZoomPlayer Support (as of Apr 2007)
Cyberlink PowerDVD (for files not sure for DVDs)
Vista Media Center (built into Windows Vista by default)

+1 here.

I tried Vista at one point on my HTPC and Sage performance sucked so I went back to XP. I figured it wouldn't be too long before Sage supported EVR since everyone one else was adding support, but that was over a year ago and I'm still waiting, so I guess I called that one wrong. What's frustrating is that I'd be getting better BD/HD-DVD playback if I could move to Vista.

One thing's for sure, I definitely won't be purchasing any Sage upgrade that doesn't have EVR support. If it's not there in 7.0 I'll most likely start looking at Sage alternatives.

I'm not an EVR expert, but Sage & Vista runs fine for everything but HDPVR files ATM for me. Blu-ray with PDVD or TMT shows low CPU percentages. What problems did you have with VMR9 on Vista?

But again, I'd like hardware assisted HDPVR playback - so EVR is a must.

It's not just hardware assistance for the sake of lower CPU usage. For me, the picture quality of H.264 streams from dish network SUCKS without EVR and Cyberlink using hardware acceleration. I've also had a relly hard time finding a stable MPEG-2 decoder without EVR. The best for me is the Nvidia decoder on Nvidia graphics cards. On my ATI graphics cards, no decoder is rock solid without EVR.

Yes, yes, yes... EVR is a total necessity IMO for the next version of Sage. It would eliminate 80% of the "I can't get the HD-PVR files to play smoothly on my vista box" posts in this forum. Especially since Sage is selling HDPVR bundles you would think that this would be a priority.

Tech support told me that they're looking at EVR support and that it would be in a future beta release. Now that 6.4 is officially released, I'm hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that the next beta will have EVR support. pleeeeaaaaassseeee....

I was never able to get reliable 1080i Mpeg2 playback in Sage. I wasted hours and hours playing with codecs. With EVR-based applications it worked perfectly from the get-go.

+1 I was hoping 6.4 would have had support, but PLEASE provide EVR support in 6.4 next stable release, I don't have the patience for 6.5 for EVR, its been quite some time that Vista has been out.
