EVR Support Lagging Behind Competitors
I've used SageTV in both XP and Vista w/ the PowerDVD codecs and it's unreal how much smoother and faster things run in XP vs. Vista. For those of you unfamiliar with EVR, EVR is the new video renderer supplied with Windows Vista. One of the advantages is that tearing to the picture is less likely to occur than when VMR9 is used.
I've been following EVR support across the competition and noticed the following HTPC applications have EVR support: Mediaportal EVR Support GBPVR Support (as of Nov 2007) ZoomPlayer Support (as of Apr 2007) Cyberlink PowerDVD (for files not sure for DVDs) Vista Media Center (built into Windows Vista by default) I believe Mediaportal is an open source PVR... any chance the SageTV developers can take a look at that code? It could maybe help expedite getting EVR support into SageTV.

I selfishly would like to bump this thread... any thoughts from the folks at Sage? I know new features aren't typically announced until they're released but some insight into EVR support in Vista (similar to the insight on the Hauppauge HD-PVR support) would be great.

but does it have to ONLY be Vista? I don't plan to downgrade to that until I'm kicked off the ladder.

Ha downgrade... I believe EVR comes with Vista out of the box but I googled around a bit and saw you may be able to get EVR in Windows XP after installing the .NET 3.0 redistribution package.

As I was reading around for how to get EVR working in Windows XP, I noticed that ZoomPlayer supports EVR now as well.
http://forum.inmatrix.com/index.php?...ic=5830&hl=evr And of course, Vista Media Center by default supports EVR. I will update my first post with this info.

I Agree, I've been sitting around waiting for EVR in sage for 10 months now since I built my vista client. When I get a bigger HDTV here soon I'm sure it will become more irritating dealing with this. Fortunately my 8600GTS does a fairly good job. I'm not certain if the problems I see are related to my rendering or recording methods. I capture HD via clear QAM and Firewire, neither have been consistent in their quality. Need to get some good recordings to test with, but I agree, the Sage Folks should be working on this if they are not already.
I'm considering wiping that machine and going back to XP but having just installed SP1 its not something I'm excited about doing. |

bump!
Been tearing with VMR9 for years, HD, SD, QVGA, doesn't matter what source material, or what video card, weather AGP or PCI-E. Radeon 7000, 7500, 9000, FX 5200, 6600GT, 7800GS, 3540.

I was just informed that the following new thread was created begging for EVR support.
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34557 Per my previous post, I sent an email to Sage support in late April asking and they said they'd check with the dev team. I haven't heard back so I just followed up with them again. Will keep you posted if I hear anything.
