Has anyone been able to get HD-PVR files to playback in Sage with Coreavc?

Because I cannot. It plays perfectly in Graphedit and WMPlayer classic.

Thoughts? Using 1.6.5 CoreAVC, which plays 1080p mkv/wmv perfectly in Sage.

Stumped.

I've got the same problem. Im using 6.4.5 though. Ive tried 3 different codec AVC, Arcsoft and Cyberlink. A 3 Play fine in Graphedit and choke in sage (Skipping frames, freezing).

I've now tried COREAVC 1.5, 1.65, 1.7, as well as Mainconcept AVC, Divx Beta 2, and all of these have the same things in common:

They play these files ok outside of Sage, but not within Sage.

I'm no consipiracy theorist, but it's strange that the shipping ArcSoft decoder is just working and choppy enough to be annoying...YET the HD extender plays them back just fine. And no other H264 decoders work.

Is anyone trying the multi-core version of CoreAVC? I'm not going to bother with it if it's not working for folks.

I also wonder why Sage can't get smooth playback in the PC app when the extender does just fine.

I tried CoreAVC, but ArcSoft worked much better for me.

Now that is a confusing post. I posted a log where the COREAVC was attempted to be used by Sage, but the dreaded "Unable to use the specified filter" was the result.

So I assume you got SOME sort of results with COREAVC? 'Cause I got 0 results!

P.S. Which version of coreavc? I've tried 1.5, 1.65, 1.7.

So Brent, can you humor me, and show me parts of your log file that read this:

DShowPlayer setVideoDecoderFilter0(CoreAVC Video

that aren't followed by this?

Unable to use the specified audio decoder filter

Thanks!
Shawn

Yeah sorry it was confusing to you. I did try with CoreAVC back when I first got the HD-PVR and it worked. I'll have to check to see what version it was, but since it was "choppy" playback I moved on. In the end the ArcSoft decoder was the best and thats what I'm using today.

And if you haven't already, give this thread a read. It has some useful information on getting the various codecs (including CoreAVC) to work in SageTV for the HD-PVR.

If you're talking about where it was mentioned to add the line

videoframe/h264_video_decoder_filter=CoreAVC Video Decoder

I've done that already. Brent, you can see from my log file that Sage is at least trying to call CoreAVC to decode the AVC/H264 file but it's giving me the "cannot use the selected filter".

Are you absolutely sure that you got CoreAVC to work for the HD-PVR files? What version of CoreAVC were you using?

Positive - it worked, but was choppy.
I used the CoreAVC version from here

I don't recommend CoreAVC though as I had much better luck with ArcSoft.

Brent, in that thread you state:

  • Download or install the proper decoder (Cyberlink is a purchase, CoreAVC is a purchase or download from here and ArcSoft gets installed when you install TMC from the HD-PVR disk)
  • Close SageTV and SageTVServices for server PC or SageTV Client on Client PC
  • Edit SageTV Properties and insert one of the following:
  1. If you want to use CyberLink PDVD8 Decoder add the following:
  2. If you want to use CoreAVC Decoder add the following:
  3. If you want to use Arcsoft Decoder add the following:
  4. If you want to use Divx Decoder (in beta) add the following:
  • Save SageTV Properties & Restart SageTV or SageTV Client
You have to do this on each machine. Best results for me are Arcsoft, then CoreAVC and worst was Cyberlink. I'm now getting very good performance from my client PC after doing this and choosing Arcsoft.

Thanks to those above who detailed the sagetv properties lines that needed to be added!

It would be nice if Sage added the ability to switch between h.264 codecs within the settings page instead of needing to go into the properties file.

At least on Sage beta 6.4.4 this doesn't work. I will post logs of when I try to playback files with these various codecs.

Up first will be the Divx H264 Decoder filter:

In case you didn't notice my emphasis - use the ArcSoft decoder - it works best And those steps you quoted above are the correct steps to get it working

Brent, I see a review / comparison of ffdshow and coreavc, but no actual download link to the version of CoreAVC you used. Unless you're talking about the "K-Lite Codec Pack". Can you elaborate?
Thanks.

Brent, I think there's a communication breakdown here somewhere. I have the ArcSoft codec working, no problems. It just stutters a bit when I begin to playback a file; it does eventually smooth out. I would like to try CoreAVC and have posted a log where Sage is CORRECTLY calling CoreAVC to playback my .ts file, but it's getting the "Filter cannot be used" message.

Did you just use the one that's part of the K-Lite Codec Pack?

Shawn

In that post it has a link and commentary. But if you just want the download link for the codec it's here

That appears to be "CoreAVC Pro". I have installed it and I'm rebooting. I'll let you know what my log file says when I try to playback the HD-PVR file.

Brent, I have no idea, but you're right, that version of CoreAVC DOES work with Sage. I still can't understand why. I also can't understand why DIVX doesn't work either..
