Playing DVDs in a playlist?

Where do you go to change these settings? Sorry, I just set my system up a couple of days ago, and I have set the "Repeat" and "Shuffle" options to On, and at the end of every ripped DVD, the screen just stays black - it will not go to the next DVD automayically.

I recommend not putting a DVD into a playlist because the DVD doesn't really end... the movie ends, but the DVD returns to the menu & keeps 'playing'.

Edit: DVDs will be kept out of playlists in the future.

I am not actually putting a DVD in the playlist, I am putting the ripped DVD into the playlist. I have them all strucured as MovieName/Video_TS/.VOB Files. ANy thoughts? I really do not want to have to convert them all to another format.

Yes... I recommend that you not try to add any type of DVD to a playlist, as I posted above.

I just made the switch from Vista MCE and built a sageTV Video Server and bought 3 of the STX-HD100's based on a e-mail from George Oms on July 1st, 2008 (See Below) specifically for this task. And now you are telling me it wont work?

There has to be an option.

Jason,

Yes you add them to a playlist like any regular file. Just import the actual directory with the VOB and you can add them to the playlist and there is also a shuffle option and continuous loop.

Thanks,

George Oms

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot -- while you shouldn't add the DVD itself, you can add the individual VOB files for the movie. But I haven't tried importing the individual files in quite some time, so I don't remember what needs to be done to get the files outside a DVD. You may just need to make sure the folder doesn't look like a DVD.

This really isn't related to the original question, so I'm moving it to its own topic.

I prefer the forum -- I certainly don't always know the answer, so someone else can jump in to provide more info or correct me if I post the wrong info, and/or someone else w/the same question can read the answer when it is in the forum.

Depending on the software you are using to rip the DVD's, there should be an option to rip the movie to a single VOB file. Alternately, VideoRedo has the capability to combine VOB's and convert them to a plain old MPEG2 file. You can also convert the video to DivX/XviD. Of course you will lose chapters if you convert to anything other than the VOB's but you will at least be able to use them in playlists.

Aloha,
Mike

One benefit of ripping to a single VOB or another single-file format is it can be used in SageTV Placeshifter (Ripped DVD's in original format cannot)
