Question Picture not advancing fast enough when using skip on the remote

Long time SageTV user, but fairly new extender user. I recently replaced one of my full PC clients with this wonderful little HD extender box. I have gotten pretty good WAF except for one minor annoyance.

On my old PC client, when I would press the skip forward button on the remote the picture and sound would instantly move to the new location even if I pressed it several times quickly. On the media extender, the picture takes a few seconds before it will display where I skipped to, but the audio works instantly. In other words, it will display the last frame that was showing before I pressed the skip button and will not show another until a few seconds after I stop pressing the skip button.

I uninstalled all Java versions from the server and updated it to the latest Java available this morning, but it had no effect.

Is there a setting I can change to make this function like my old PC client did? It's not too big of a deal other than my wife brought it up. Since showanalyzer can't do commercial marking on the HD-PVR recordings yet, she has to manually skip through her DIY shows and noticed this. It makes it harder for her to determine if she is still in a commercial or back in the show since the picture hasn't caught up.

I haven't seen this using my HD100. What were you using for playback when it worked? Has anything changed regarding your network configuration, it almost sounds like network lag. Is it on all recordings, or only recordings from a particular tuner? it it recording live or is it a completed recording?

Apparently I have more questions than answers.

I haven't changed anything on my network configuration other than switching the extender for the PC. The old PC client did have a gigabit network card in it, but I am not sure if that made the difference or not.

The problem happens with all recordings regardless of the tuner. That would include SD, H.264, and HD recordings. I haven't tried it with live TV, but I rarely watch live TV anymore.

What version of Sage TV are you using? Also, what version firmware do you have in the HD100? I think I have Sage 6.3.10 and the firmware is the last non beta version 20080204 0.

Server is SageTV 6.4.4. HD Extender has latest beta bios as of 2 days ago when I flashed it. I had the latest non-beta previously, but it wouldn't play all my h.264 media.

I'm out of ideas. Did the problem occur before you moved to the beta version?

I've noticed this recently as well... It seems to happen on HD files primarily.

It seems to be more noticeable since com skip is not working...

Unfortunately, I am not sure. I didn't let my wife use it until I worked out most of the bugs so the WAF would be higher. Some of the bigger bugs required the beta firmware upgrade so my box spent litttle time with the non-beta firmware installed.

I appreciate your input.

Dumb question, but how's that hard disk doing? I recently had an issue where 1 disk in my RAID5 died, which caused bizarre playback issues which is to be expected. I didn't know it had died since it was a headless server, and I neglected to put the warning alert up.

I also had bizarre issues when my standalone hard disk is on the verge of death, i could hear all sorts of clicking when it was doing read/writes.

No issues according to the server, but that's a good thought. I have multiple drives that I have separated by tuner and they all do the same thing on the HD extender. No issues on my remaining PC client.

I have the same issue. I'm using the lastest firmware from a few days ago and 6.4.5.

I suspect this is an H.264 issue. I have an HD PVR that records in H.264 and a Hauppauge digital USB stick that captures an MPEG2 stream. This issue only appears on the HD PVR recordings (standard def, haven't tried hi def yet). Prior to the HD PVR, I used a PVR150 that recorded MPEG2 and didn't see this issue with that card either.

Processor and disk utilization are both very low on the server. I have the issue prior to the latest firmware, but it seems to be a bit worse now.
