Custom channel/guide for recording composite feed?

Hello!

I'm curious if it would be possible to make a custom "channel" for the guide? Each hour the "show" would change names to the date followed by the hour ahead (like 06-30-08 1600) and the show would last one hour.

The reason I'd like to do this is because I have a video/security camera setup and my thinking is that I could just setup one of my capture cards to continuously record this one channel (which would be the composite video input of the card) and as the drive got full it would auto delete the oldest "shows" (hourly recordings). I'm sure I could put several days worth of recordings on a 500 gig hard drive and that would be more than enough time for me to look back on any of the hourly recordings if I wanted to.

Basically, I just want to use SageTV as a way to view and record the cameras in my house (my Lorex system can output all video sources sequenced to a single output so I'd only need one capture card) and the above is just a general idea of something I thought might work. Thoughts or additional ideas?

Thanks!!!

Just buy a real CCTV DVR package and run the output to SageTV.

Sage is not really setup to operate as you desire and the storage required for MPEG2 files would be rather large. Not to mention no motion detection so you would have to watch back through manually to find any events.

Yeah, that would cost me another decent amount of money though

The advantage of using SageTV is that I'd have the video accessible from any of my SageTV locations in my house including being able to view the cameras remotely using SageTV. Also, with storage space pretty cheap these days the extra space for MPEG2 recordings isn't a huge concern since I don't need to maintain months worth of video... just a few days or so.

The main thing (I think) is to be able to automatically create the guide program show name (like 07-01-08 1300) which would take some script I believe and I'm not very good at programming so was just curious if anybody had already done anything like this or if it was even possible. LOL

Thanks!
