Recorded Show deletes by itself???

Had a weird problem tonight that the wife is asking me to run by the experts.

We had a shows "Men in Trees" recording from 8 to 10pm tonight. It recorded and showed recording during that time, but after 10pm dissapeared from the recorded shows. I show the xml file from the recording, but the actual show deleted at 10pm. Here's an expert from the log:

Wed 6/11 22:00:01.785 Removing from schedule cause expired A[1760416,1756508,"Men in Trees",30821@0611.21:00,60]
Wed 6/11 22:00:01.789 Removing from schedule cause expired A[1757110,1757037,"George Lopez",11006@0611.21:30,30]
Wed 6/11 22:00:01.792 Removing from schedule cause expired A[2021116,2018441,"Oprah Winfrey",16451@0611.21:00,60]

Any ideas of what is going on????

Was there an EPG update in the evening that changed the listings? Were the recordings corrupted & then deleted? Is your schedule lookahead set too large & it just now noticed that the shows were over & removed them from the schedule?

Those lines look like they are talking about the schedule, not file deletions... the log should have other info about deleted files.

The last entry in the log that seems to show the deletion:

The file is segmented badly. The last one is segment 11 (\\livingroom\ssageshows\sageshows\MeninTrees-TakingtheLead-1760416-11.mpg). I would say it was a corrupted recording and that is why it was deleted.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot? After looking through the log some more it looks like the HDHR kept stopping & restarting in the middle of the recording. Not sure if I should focus on the HDHR or on SageTV at this point. I don't think we've ever had this happen before.

Search the log for encoder halt, if found probably commication problem with HDHR. Check for loose ethernet connection or bad cable.

Good idea. I'll have to check the HDHR cabling and run some test records to see how it goes.

By the way, thanks to everyone for your input and assistance.

Here is a sample of the actual line you should search for:

SEEKER HAS DETECTED A HALT IN THE ENCODER...TRYING TO RESET IT

Yep, I'm seeing that log entry multiple times during the recording and then a restart. The deletion of the file/s seemed to happen at the end of the recording.

I'll be checking the HDHR and its connections out tonight. Thanks,

I would start at the HDHR itself. The HDHR connection seems to allow a lot of play for the cable slide in and and out. I pushed my cables in all of the way. I now search my logs on a daily basis but have not seen any more halts since I determined the cause.

Two words: RUBBER BANDS.

(after reading this thread, I will be installing those "firmware updates" on my HDHR's tonight).

I just discovered I had a encoder halt last night and lost about 5 minutes on one of my recordings. I am not very happy with the HDHRs at this point. The halt occurred with my newest HDHR which is a revision 2. I think the ethernet connection may be a basic flaw with the HDHR.
I have my doubts if it will solve the problem but I now have rubber bands holding the ethernet cables in the HDHRs.

I had this exact same problem several times a few weeks back and found it was related to an almost-full hard-drive. When I added more drive space, the problem went away. Not sure if that's your issue or not. Also not sure why this caused my issue, since it was almost full, not entirely full.

Update: Two months later, my hard drive got near-full again, and the same problem started happening. Shows record, then delete themselves right away. For some reason Sage is not deleting old shows, just new ones. Not sure why. I haven't had time to dig into the logs yet to figure it out.

By the way, for some reason Sage doesn't do any clean up on my old files. They just pile up, even if they are set to delete if space is needed. Since installing many months ago, I don't think I've ever had a show get deleted by Sage...they just pile up until I delete them manually. Anyone have thoughts on this?

You've double-checked your Favorites to make sure that AutoDelete is set to Yes? Select a recording, choose Record Options, then choose Adjust Favorite Options to verify the Favs being used.

And, remember: Manual Recordings and Archived recordings can never be automatically deleted.

If that isn't it, maybe there is a permissions problem with file deletion on the recording drives. If everything is OK, check with tech support.
