PC not resuming from S3 when a show is scheduled to be recorded.

Hi all,

I'm having problems with SageTV coming out of S3 (standby) when a show is scheduled to be recorded, the computer remains in standby. Nothing happens. But I can get the computer out of standby by using the MCE remote without any problems. Then, the screen is black but when I press the green button, the main screen comes up again. I've tried everything but can't find the solution. Any ideas? I'm using XP Pro, not MCE.

Thanks.
Rik

This sounds like it might be a BIOS problem. If you are able to wake up your PC with the remote, that means that particular "wake up" path is working correctly, however often there is an option in your BIOS to enable "wake on alarm" and if you have that enabled, then SageTV will *not* be able to set a wake up time and it won't wake up for recordings.

I've set the 'Power On By RTC Alarm' to enabled, but the pc is not coming out of s3... Are there more things I should check?

I've just discovered that all this does work when the computer hybernates. So when a tv show is scheduled, the computer boots and records the show. But it doesn't work with S3. Very strange.... any ideas?

Thanks.

Think you may be misreading dvsing's message.

Ah! Yes. I'm sorry. Anyway, the alarm was disabled first. I'll disable it again and see what happens.

Thanks =)

Yes.. I believe "wake on RTC alarm" should be disabled-- this option is usually given with a time to wake the computer.. If this is enabled, it prevents software from setting a time to wake the computer if/when it goes to sleep.

Also, I'm not sure how much power savings you'll get in S1... fans still running, power supply still.... supplying. S3 on the other hand is great. I've got two PCs in my apartment that were running 24/7 - one was SageTV and the other was a high-end gaming PC that is also my desktop/server. A month ago I set a new power policy where after 5 minutes of inactivity they would both enter S3 standby mode. Result? Power bill dropped by over $100... which is about what I calculated my savings to be when I figured out that desktop was drawing about 330 watts, and the sage box was drawing around 170 =)

I am also noticing that Sage isn't waking for a scheduled recording. I also have Wake for RTC Alarm Enabled. I'm going to disable this when I go home to see if it improves this situation. I assume that as long as the Sagetv service is running it doesn't matter if the Sagetv app is minimized or not.

Also, if the Sagetv service crashes, isn't the recover function supposed to restart it?

Unfortunately, disabling RTC Alarms did nothing to enable Sage to wake my PC up from standby. I really don't know why Sage is unable to wake my PC.
