6.4.3 DVD Player Freeze
I am experiencing a wierd error in this since the 6.4.x beta. When I am playing DVD files (stored as decompressed DVD structure directory in my main server) they randomly freeze. After the freeze there is no response from the remote control and nothing else I can do.
These were working correctly in 6.3.10 and I am sure because I play some DVDs for my kids several times a day everyday. Now with 6.4.x series they will freeze the extender both the normal and the HD one. The fix is sometime to cycle power to the extender, but sometimes I need to restart the sagetv service. I can not predict when it is going to happen becuase it doesn't do it in the same place everytime. The files are not damaged, since they play fine with other player and they were working before the beta. Anyone else expiriencing this? |

In my opinion SageTV is horrible at playing back DVDs stored on the PC - or ANY DVDs for that matter. I've been the victim of random freezes with any version of sage and any combination of decoders...
That being said, I got the least amount of freezing by making sure the Nvidia Purevideo decoder was being used by raising its merit with DSFMgr.exe and selecting Default for the DVD video decoder. I'm not sure what decoders you're using but if you've got the latest sage version using the same decoders you were using previously, this is indeed strange...

I am not using any purevideo decoders. I use my sagetv server headless which means I never play videos on the server machine. All videos get played through media extenders both HD and SD. I figured those have their own hardware decoders for mpeg2 that would be needed for dvd rips.
Anyone else? |

Yes, I'm seeing this too, best option is to report it as a bug.

I already sent a bug report, but the occurence is too random, and the log files seem to point to different things

I get this too with any DVD I watch. It plays for ~10-15 minutes and then freezes Sage completely. I CTRL-ALT-DEL kill sage, restart and then go to the DVD menu->scene selection and pick the scene immediately after the one that froze and it plays the whole way though.... Every DVD it does this to.
