Hauppauge HD-PVR Available in Canada

NCIX.com is now listing the Hauppauge HD-PVR for delivery in 1 to 2 weeks. Price is CAD$249.99 and if you order before June 3 you will qualify for their current shipping special of $5.99 for ground. If you live outside B.C., no P.S.T. This is a far better deal than ordering direct from Hauppauge and paying the various clearing/duty fees charged by UPS. You just have to be willing to wait a while...

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=30194

Sorry, I just noticed that the $5.99 shipping special does not apply to out of stock items. Still, at $12-$15 shipping, a better deal.

What's the advantage?

What's the advantage of this over an internal HD recorder?

It's pretty much the only reasonably priced way (besides a few OTA channels) to record HD programming in the Toronto area. Get the Rogers Box and one of these hooked up and you are ready to record any channel you subscribe to.

Thanks for that info. I think I will cancel my second HD-PVR and order it from inside Canada.

Hey So the Haup. HD PVR can record from A Shaw HD box? and one more question: With the HD PVR would it be possible to record PPV's such as UFC and Boxing Events?

Thanks

It Finally Shipped

Well, I finally received notice that my order shipped yesterday (July 9th). Given the time that has passed, I'm sure it will be one of the revised units, but I'll let you know when I receive it. The site no longer lists this as special order 2-3 weeks. It now lists as 2-5 days with an ETA of July 13th. They must have sold through and shipped their initial allotment and are waiting on more.

It's Rev C2

Well, after being screwed around by Purolator, I received my unit today ()Monday July 14). I can confirm that NCIX is shipping Rev C2.

I got mine today. Ordered yesterday from NCIX, paid $15 express shipping, got it today! (in Ottawa)

The board wasn't seated properly inside of the plastic enclosure, however. I reseated it by plugging in the USB and Power cable and pressing down on them. I am hoping the unit still functions properly, I will find out when I get home tonight!

It is Rev C2 as well.

On sale @ Dell

Looks like Dell.ca has this on for $199 as part of today's "Deal of the Day". Thats about $50 less than NCIX, and I think shipping is free on these deals.

The HDPVR is on the sidebar.
By the way, for anyone not familiar with these Dell sales, these deals are only good for today (different set of deals each day, over the course of 9 days). Hope this helps anyone who might have been thinking of picking one of these up.

I ordered one from Dell as part of the deal as well - the downside is that the expected ship date is SEPTEMBER 15 - WTF!

I am considering cancelling the Dell Order and buying the HD-PVR in a bundle from Sage for $300 since I will have to buy the SageTV software as well which makes the effective cost of the HD-PVR $220.

I got my HD-PVR from Dell yesterday, rev C2. :-D

Keep the Dell order and buy the SageTV HD Extender bundle. Comes with Sage license and the extended license. Better deal!

My shipping date has now moved up to Aug 22. I see now that Canada Computers has these in stock, at least according to the web site. How do you know if it is rev C2?

You can also purchase this unit from Canada Computers for $245. I went to one of the stores in the Toronto area and purchased one yesterday. Link here: Link

The model number is 1219 and comes in a plain white box. I didn't see any discernible difference between the 1219 and 1212. All of the same materials are there. It doesn't even include French documentation to warrant a new model number.

I got the C2 revision made in Indonesia. I haven't had any issues so far.
