Searching the forums
In advance search is there a way to search for a phrase in these forums? I have tried quotes, hyphens, and brackets around a phrase and it treats them like individual words. Subjects I'm trying to learn more about are:
"Picture in Picture" "Slow motion" "Frame by frame" "Fast forward" instead of skip Thanks for any insight on searching the forums and or on the subjects above. Andrew |

You could try using Google to search a specific site, like this:
<search phrase> site:forums.sagetv.com - Andy

Thanks Andy. I knew about that and was using it but it gave many results from the archive forums.
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/archive/ When you get results from archive you are unable to respond to the thread. With the current version of vBulletin (3.6.10) they support phrase searching and many other additional options in searching. I know I'm probably like others that post a message on a subject because I was not able to find it in search and then get a response quoting a thread with those details. I know upgrading the forums to the latest version of vBulletin would greatly improve the forms and much more than just searching. Thanks, Andrew |

Try:
<search term> site:forums.sagetv.com -forums.sagetv.com/forums/archive/ - Andy

Thanks again Andy. I don't know if you have looked at the quailty or lack of quailty results that a search like that brings for say something like "Picture in Picture". But it gives you every thread that has on the bottom of the thread "Similar Threads" with that phrase in it. Under "Similar Threads" they all point to the same thread. So six results that have nothing to do with the phrase but they all point to the same thread under "Similar Threads".
I would hope that an upgrade is plan soon for SageTV forum software. Thanks, Andrew |

Yeah, I know there are newer version of the forum software -- but it takes time to upgrade and we may just go for v3.7 when it is released & can find the time to update everything.
In the meantime, I was simply trying to offer another search option. - Andy
